Default one more for the ranks

hi yall, i'm another newbie and just dig reading all the great posts on ifish. well for a funny fishing story i think you might get a kick out of this one. it was a few years ago when a buddy took me out on his boat for one of my first sturgeon trips. we were right around the clackamette on the willi. so we were sitting there soaking up the sun, and i decided it was time to check the bait. so i started to reel in and thought i was snagged up, but when i pulled up hard it would give a little and then pull back. well i was pretty clueless about these fish (i did know that they can be as big as a house)so i thought maybe i had hooked into one of those monsters and he just didn't know it yet. well after about 30 min or so we got to the leader (my buddy and i took turns batteling the beast), and the other end was hooked to a rope. i think i said something about finding jimmy hoffa. anyways i started to pull the rope into the boat and after about 15 yards i pulled up an old 20# anchor! man, what a fight and i was so happy it wasn't jimmy! anyways i still haven't got a keeper, i bank fish mainly for steel, seeing i don't have a boat (i've got an anchor though!). i'd really like to get into the springers this year. any one have any tips for banking on the clack or wilson for these guys? when/where/with what? thanks in advance and thanks to everybody that makes ifish so great!

Cool post, Nessie. How old do you think the anchor was?

And welcome aboard!!!

Good story. I had a friend who did the same thing many years back on the Willamette. Except his catch was a huge round rock. The hook got caught in a crack. By the time he landed it the wall at Oregon City was lined with curious onlookers waiting to see this big sturgeon. Boy was he ever emabrrased.

Welcome aboard!!

hey thumper, took a look at said anchor and it was made by roloff manufacturing corp in kaukauna wisconsin. i was wrong about the weight (aren't we all?) it is only 15#. roloff mfg opened in 1944 so it can't be that old, anyways happy fishing!
