8 points for 2009 doe, what to do?

O.K. I have 8 points for the 2009 doe hunt. I used to hunt the Heppner unit up Rhea creek for doe when they used to hand out 900 tags. The last time we got doe tags (9 years ago), just about the whole area was posted. We still went 4 for 5 though.

This year we have a good chance of pulling tags for Heppner again with the 8 points, even though they are handing out only 22 tags.

Since it is all a "Private Land" hunt, I was wondering if anyone had any idea's on what the best plan would be?

8 points for doe?!?! I would think you could go wherever you wanted. Is there a specific reason you want to hunt Heppner? I don't know if you're just looking to gather meat or if this is your annual hunting trip. Myself, I apply for areas that are pretty close for doe and focus my attn. on elk or WY.

If you go for Hepner unit try up Hinton Cr. It is private but open to hunt area. Always doe running around. Or there is an area on Willow Cr. at the gravel pit that is large private that is an open area to hunt. Good luck have never found even having a lot of points made much difference here in Oregon!

Ahhhh don't waste 8 pts on Heppner.

1. If they are only offering 22 tags, it's for a reason. I've seen very few animals in the North and West portions of that unit for a few years (publicly accessible lands anyway).

2. There are a few hunts that require 8pts, I'd look into those.
