Bear ages??????
Well I see that people are getting back cards from ODFW on how old their bears are shot this last season in the spring..Has anybody recieved a card from one that was shot in the fall over on the east side?? I am still waiting for mine..When I took it to the biologist in Lagrande he said that it was not that old right around 7/8 years but he had never seen a bear this big for being so young..It weighed over 500 lbs. and has a scull measured out at 20 7/8''.I cant wait to see the age..

Re: Bear ages??????
I didn't get mine and the wifes bear age cards that we shot the first of August 07' till December 08'. Got the age card for the deer I shot in late December 07' back early October 08'. So I guess you probably won't see anything till summer 09' at the earliest. I'm hoping they are faster too, I shot a bear the 1st of August that scored 20 7/8" also. Have trail cam pics from the year before of him and would like to know how old.

Re: Bear ages??????
I just got my spring bear results last week. Probably be months before fall stuff starts getting mailed out. Mine was a 7 year old boar, which surprised me 'cause he wasn't very big, although he had an abcessed bullet wound in a hind leg. Hunted 4 days in the Blues....saw two young (probably yearling) cougars and 21 bear.

No I have not, I am going to call the taxidermist next week and probably go get it officially measured because I believe the drying period is 60 or 90 days..

Did you have two guys help you pack it out ? I helped a guy pack out a bear in the spring that had a bad leg it smelled so bad it would make you sick.

Re: Bear ages??????
Shot a deer one year that had a wound in his leg in the fleshy rump. There was a smell inside his gut cavity that I will never forget. He did not make it to the freezer. I think it was gangreen.

Re: Bear ages??????
NW Dunkin-
PM if you need to find a measurer. The drying period is 60 days after the flesh is off of the skull.
We've been measuring a lot of animals this past 2 months, the sooner you measure the better the score over time!
