Re: How about....sharks?
We catch sharks almost every trip when we go Halibut fishing. You can be bringing everything up for a bait check when all of a sudden it just takes off on a run. We have even had them circle the boat looking at a halibut being bled out over the side. Most of the sharks I have caught have been in the 5 to 10 foot range.

Re: How about....sharks?
Anyone ever get one close in? Say inside 10 miles?
If I could catch a fish, then shoot it, that would really be the best of both worlds.

How about....sharks?
Hello all! I was checking out this other web site ( www.coast-shark.com) and they are casting into the surf mostly in texas I think. Catching these big 4 to 10 foot sharks. Like sand sharks, hammerheads and even tigers! The really amazing thing is it is mostly all catch/tag/release back into the surf! I wonder if anyone here has caught sharks here on the ore coast? Either on purpose or by accident I'd love to hear about it!

Re: How about....sharks?
Flatfish...The blues don't seem to come inside. I think they like the warmer water. Love to see those guys.. they smell like victory... I mean TUNA!
There's been a thresher (big one too.. 600 lbs) caught inside the CR and of course a surfboard gets munched by a Great White every once in a while, usually in the winter (but that's when most of the surfers are out there). Of course they are protected now....the sharks that is.. surfers are fair game!

Re: How about....sharks?
Cool stories. Have you guys ever seen a white shark? Are all the sharks protected, or just the whites? I do some surfing as well, and I try to ignore it, but the fear is always there!

Re: How about....sharks?
We got into a bunch of Blues about 5 miles out of Depot Bay this year. Out of 10 hooked only one was boated and released. This next year Im going to be ready for some C&R shark fishing.

Re: How about....sharks?
So,
I would think hog gear with steel leaders should land one.
Bait??? I would think something bloody.
Miss B,
If I am in tunatown, I aint messing around with sharks on purpose. While my ride is ocean worthy, it aint a tuna ride. So unless I can get them within an hours running time, I will have to beg rides.

Re: How about....sharks?
Saw a boat catah and release about a 6' blue sw of the CR bouy this year while pulling herring,I thought it would be quite a bonus to good day salmon fishing but his complaint was it waisted a good 15-20 min where he could of been hooking salmon instead

Re: How about....sharks?
It depends on the water temp but they get pretty close. I've caught several dog sharks right off the end of the Newport jetty but the larger sharks are a little farther offshore.
Flatfish, you'll find plenty of sharks within a 1/2 hour jaunt. If it's flat out, just spot fish them. If it's choppy or rough then you'll have to just throw the bait and see what happens.

Re: How about....sharks?
My 9 year old daughter caught a 6' blue just north of Tillamook, and not 2 miles offshore in 2002. I have also caught them off the mouth of the Umpqua in years past (1/2 dozen).
Ug and I had quite a frenzy off our stern TUNA fishing this year too. One of them was a thresher--but we couldn't get it to bite.
I don't swim in the blue water!!
