Default Lighthouses open in December

Tomorrow is my daughters 4th birthday and I always take my kids birthday off from work and we do something fun.

My daughter wants to go to a lighthouse.

Anybody know if any of the lighthouses are open for public viewing in December? I would like to actually get in the lighthouse and look out the elevated windows rather than just stand outside of the tower like a summer tourist. I wouldnt mind going to the Astoria area, or even as far south as Newport.

If you want to check out the lighthouse in Brookings, above the port, I can probably arrange it.

Thanks for the offer.

I had no idea who operated the lighthouses. I called Ketas number and got the Oregon State Parks

The Oregon State Parks operates the lighthouse right at the North end of the bridge in Newport. And the working lighthouse a couple miles north is operated by BLM. We visted both lighthouses.

It was a bit dissapointed to get to the lighthouse and wait for the tour time only to find out you have to be 5 to go up the stairs to the lighthouse (rules ).

So after driving to Newport, paying the $5 to get into the BLM park, visiting the self guided interpretive center which was pretty cool, we couldnt get in the lighthouse because my daughter was 4 :depressed:

The lighthouse ran by the parks is an interesting slice of history as you get to go thru the house and see how the rooms were set up and some of the stuff is pretty old in there as that lighthouse hasnt operated since 1873.

Fun day in all, but I wish we could have gotten up to the light. Oh, I made it by Englunds for a deposit of cash
