spawning results
The screw traps, will be installed on several coastal streams to monitor the spawning results. Of the salmon and steel head on several coastal rivers.
Find out from your district biologist where the traps are located an plan on visiting them.
The screw traps capture the out migrating fry and smoltz , where they are counted and cataloged .
You can arrange with the crew on these traps to go up and watched them in operation it is very interesting, and informative.
Everybody should follow the results of these screw trap surveys, I think it is one of the most interesting things that the department is doing.
With all the controversy about the loggers destroying the habitat, and on and on, Here is proof of what is going on. Good or bad, these are scientific results, and not a bunch of bar stool philosophers.
Everybody should check with your local biologists to see where they are installing the screw traps on a stream near you, and go and look at one of the these in operation ;I am convinced you will be quite surprised.
I have worked with these crews for years and am still surprised with the results and the timing of the migration of each separate species.
You to can join in this tremendous amount of information that it is available to you, and when you get done you can talk with concrete results and not a bunch of speculation about what will happen, or what did happen.
I am sure you will find the spawning beds are in excellent shape. but we must make sure they are kept that way.
