2004 fishing regs; changes & thanks ChumKing
Just got a copy of the 2004 Oregon fishing regs. The changes that Chum King (Eric) worked for are indeed in there, hilighted in blue. On page 12, general restrictions, #1: "except any number of rods or lines are allowed outside of 3 miles from shore when angling for offshore pelagic species and only if no species other than offshore pelagic species have been retained."
#13 "except chumming is allowed when fishing for offshore pelagic species outside of 3 miles from shore and only if no species other than offshore pelagic species have been retained."
Similar wording shows up on page 91.
Eric, I wish to thank you for working on our behalf to get these regs in place. Please let me buy you the first beer at the next Tunaholics meeting! (it's not bribery if it's after the fact, is it?)

Oh Yeah!!!! It's a rare thing when help of this quality is not only unsolicited but pursued to the finish by a public official. Chum King saw the conflict between common practice and rules governing offshore angling that were orignally written for fresh water fishing. He then worked to change the rules to reflect the realities of jig fishing for Albacore from small boats.
Thank you Eric for solving a problem for the TUNA! fishers of the central and other parts of the Oregon Coast. Now you can fish TUNA! with any Salty Dog and be legit all day long.

Thanks Eric! I am so glad to be able to stay "legal" and still optimise my tuna adventures. The effort is greatly appreciated and the results even more appreciated!

We need a "Salty Dogs" award for deeds like this... maybe a plaque with a piece of busted yellow po' ? OK maybe something a little better, that we can give to show appreciation, that will also pass muster with whatever rules the state has about gifts. Any ideas? I'll put the first $5 in the hat. Or we can just get him plastered at the Rogue...

Re: 2004 fishing regs; changes & thanks ChumKing
Aw you guys are embarrassing me.
Thanks for all the positive feedback, but this was something that a lot of people got involved in. Including other ODFW staff at Newport and headquarters, OSP, the Salty Dogs, and of course the Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission had to give the package the final approval.
I hope to see a bunch of you at the next TA meeting in Newport.
