OK, I posted a lot here last winter complaining about the problems I was having
with electolysis at Depoe Bay and the subsequent screwing I got when I had my bottom
paint redone. I then forgot to post this most important update!
As you may know, Depoe Bay has been know as a "hot" port for many years. After
the troubles I had last year with my new boat I did a lot of talking with the Harbor
Master (Gary) about what we could do to "cool" the port down some. One solution seemed
to be to re-route the dock electrical cables so they were NOT hanging in the water
24/7. This was to be a MAJOR task requiring a bunch of bucks to get it done. Gary
and the Harbor Commision started looking into grants to help cover the costs. They
found funding and then went through the process of finding the correct contractor to do
the job.
At any rate, the wires are now coming out of the sea wall to a pedistal on the dock
and then dropping down to the box on the dock. The wires will only touch the water
at the highest of tides and then only for a short time. I guess that the wires that
USED to lay in the water 24/7 were pretty badly split and were leaking electricity
all over the place.
Kudos to the Harbor Commision and all their efforts to clean up the power
problems at Depoe Bay!!
