Default father-daughter duck hunt

I got off work a little early today and the weather was nice, so i decided to take my 5 year old out again for a quick evening hunt. We got out to our hunting area with about 45 minutes of light left. We did some walking to check out a couple of spots that normally hold birds but nothing was sitting on the sloughs. With about 20 minutes of hunting left, we decided to sit down a wait for a flight. I gave her the calls and told her to call in some birds for dad. We had some high flyers and then we had action. I heard the unmistakeable whistle of woodies and 2 shots later we had a bird down. Just about that time, here comes a pair of mallards. I draw down on the drake, fire, and another bird in the bag. We had a great time and she asked me if she called the birds in...so i respond, "of course you did sweetie, you have the calls on your neck". It was a great time. I wish i would have had the camera out with us...the sunset was spectacular. Thought that i would share a couple of pics...

Fantastic stuff. I am definitely taking my little girl out next year. My son loves it, and she is itching to go.

Great post. Any hunt with your kids is a success when they are smiling at the end. One of my closest hunting partners is my 25 year old daughter. Still comes home to hunt with the old man. You are sowing the seeds of a harvest you will reap for years to come. Congratulations!

Great story thanks for posting. Just love hearing hunt stories with the kids, especially if they are successful.

Any time you can take your kid with you is a good day regardless of bag or limit if the kid has fun nothing else matters, & be grateful that she likes spending time with dad.
