Yep I got one back too. I know several people that wrote her, so good job to all who did. Hopefully it makes her even more crazy.

Unfotunatley the only danger the cougar in OR will be in is when they eat all the game animals.

I sent her a pretty detailed piece documenting Oregon's cougar management history, the laws regarding cougar management and the cougar population statistics - complete with citations. In closing I asked her to reply with a factual rebuttal complete with sources. I can't wait to see her response since she apparently thinks that President George Bush has something to do with people using dogs to kill cougars in Oregon.

Talk about kool-aid and tinfoil hats

Here was her response to me- waiting on the second.

"You are seeing less deer because of very poor management plans and disease due to the improper culling of the animals by hunters. Cougars take diseased, leaving the best to thrive. No so hunters who kill for fun not food. If deer were really a food issue, we would have "deer ranches" as well as cattle ranches etc., Politics are driving bad policy and management plans. I suggest you read a bit more. Go to Mountain Lion Foundation and also read more about Dr. Marker before you start calling peoples knowledge "crap". That way it keeps you from looking foolish. At the rate we are abusing the lands, there will be not only no land and food for wildlife, but none for you. Kind regards, Jayne"

Well, first of all: when you send a letter to someone it is poor etiquette to call someones ideas and interests "crap." Maybe take it easy on the cougar lady.
Secondly: It is a load of crap! Cougar preying on only the diseased and weak deer? I think she may have them confused with vultures. Cougars are physically designed to hunt the strongest and fastest animals.
Third: Yeah I'm going to go to the Mountain Lion Foundation for more biased one-sided information from a special-interest group. Thanks!

Haha. I just spit cough medicine all over the computer. From the responses i have been reading on what this lady has said it sounds like it is not the eating of peyote but the inhaling........

I dont even know what to say!! Hunters kill so many cougars every year and the cubs are the easiest so of course that is what we go for first.............

People like this scare me. She needs to go talk to some of the people who actually know the numbers like district bios. Ok crazy lady letter being sent tomorrow.

Please show respect for people, even if they are not members of ifish. It's okay to disagree with opinions, or to argue over facts, but it is most definitely not okay to call this human being, this mom, this daughter, this neighbor, or even colleague, these names because you disagree with her stance on cougar management. Instead of just saying she is "crazy," take the time (like CL) to show her your perspective. It's easy to resort to name-calling, but it isn't right.
