Killing time at Englunds Marine
Dropped the wife and two of the three kids off in downtown Astoria to do some shopping. Decided that my boy Spencer and I would make the pilgramage to Englunds to check out the supply of tuna gear and other fishing items.
Handlines, clones, Zukkers, crimping tools, leaders ....... $162.00. The look on my face....Pricelss  TUNA TUNA TUNA!!!! Bring it on. Let's see, mid-June off Depoe is not that far way, right?

Re: Killing time at Englunds Marine
YES! Shiny things!
I have the urge to take off all my clothes and roll around in a pile of clones and feathers. I really like the way the feathers feel on my skin.
Is that wrong?
Be careful of those double tuna hooks! That's why I go barbless of course. A feller could even become a trend setter and spur a whole new resergence of the body piercing thing.
This could even become like one of those" Jeff Foxworthy, you know you have TUNA! on the brains if..." type things.
Things to think about anyway...

C&E
I know what you mean. Englunds had a 2 hour 20% sale the day after Thanksgiving. I dropped $500 on tuna gear and a Scotty electric downrigger.

Re: Killing time at Englunds Marine
Larry, did you say "thank you dear?" or were you wearing a red sock hat with white trim and a little red suit while singing "have yourself a Merry little Christmas"?
I feel you pain bro, in the pocket book that is. However that pain will all but vanish this summer.

Re: Killing time at Englunds Marine
Last summer, I went to SEAMAR here in Seattle to get the "bare minimum" gear for TUNA off Westport. I was figuring on spending $50. HA! A spool of handline, a coil of leader, all the little crimpy deals, about 8 - 10 lures and SS tuna hooks, bungees.....
After negotiating a hefty discount, the bill was $152.

Re: Killing time at Englunds Marine
This is good info to know. All 3 of us have spent in the neighgborhood of $150 to $160 to buy our entry level tuna gear. Subtract out my downrigger and I spent about $150 on tuna gear.
Oh ya, Merry Christmas to me.

Re: Killing time at Englunds Marine
Ho, ho, ho a tuna gear shopping we go. On clones, on zukkers, on snubbers, and what crimps them. On leader, on divers, on hooks or whatever gets 'em. Merry Tunamas and to all a tuna night.

Re: Killing time at Englunds Marine
Question, For tuna do you prefer barbed or barbless hooks?

Re: Killing time at Englunds Marine
Barbless come out of your hand or foot easier  When the fish are comming in fast they also come out of them easier. I'd go with barbless.

Re: Killing time at Englunds Marine
I've been Englund's free for 27 days now. Saved a lot of money, too. Just think of the rent-money I've blown standing at the clone counter or over by the electronics.
My wife loves me now, and will even leave me alone for a couple hours at a time. One of these days she may even let me have my car keys back.
Yep, a guy can live without Englunds. Or car keys. Or credit cards. Or s-s-s-salt water. Or... oh man, I need to get outta this thread.
Cute verse, C&E, and all tooooo true.

Heading to the "Pit of debauchery" (sp) in Newport tomorrow. Need a Danforth and some line. Guess I should leave my plastic and check book at home and just bring cash!!

Re: Killing time at Englunds Marine
Barbless for sure! Barbed are a royal pain to work with when the tuna are flyin'. I think this is a carry over from my commercial times, but I don't see any reason to use barbed tuna hooks?
