CB, VHF, or both?
OK - silly boat questions. Should I buy a CB, VHF, or both? And if I have both, do I need separate antanas? I'm equiping an old Dory and will be fishing out of Pacific City. Thanks for the help!

Re: CB, VHF, or both?
VHF is sufficient for the great blue lake. In fact, there are few CB channels that people monitor out there. Besides, you'll get better signals and reception with VHF, and you only need one antenna*. THere are some good ones out there, and many nowadays are even somewhat waterproof!
*If you go with CB also, then yes, you need 2.

Re: CB, VHF, or both?
If you're fishing Pacific City....And you want to know where the action is .You will need a CB FOR SURE. All the Dory fishermen here communicate on CB CH 5. VHF is used for Emergencies so I would suggest having one also. I live in PC and have a CB in the House, Shop, and on the BLACK ROCKET.

Re: CB, VHF, or both?
I agree! At PC a CB is indispensable. Nobody there uses the VHF much.
CB channel 5 is the "port" channel with channel 7 used as the "salmon" channel
for the guys fishing for chinook down off the mouth of the Nestucca River.

Re: CB, VHF, or both?
VHF: mandatory (for safety)
CB: optional (great for chit-chat)
VHF conversations are supposed to be brief and concise. You can yak away with CB...Although there is frequently some jerk in Texas with an illegal amplifier that will ruin one channel or another.
