Re: New Rifle!!
ive actually got the rem ultra mag but the win mag is really close to that. youll never regret purchasing that gun. elk will start walking up to you just to be shot by such a sweet gun. ok maybe it doesnt do that but youll love that ability to reach out and touch an animal at longer distances, now the only thing is you get to invest just as much money on a scope that helps you see those long distances. congrats

Re: New Rifle!!
I have the Ruger M77 Mk2 in 300 win and i love the gun, i mean i actually love the gun, sweet shooter and whatever is down range doesn't like it much.
I have a Bushnel 3200, i really want the Leupold 4.5x14 VX-L with the boone and crocket reticle, that is my dream scope.

Re: New Rifle!!
300 win mag is a great caliber. The only problem I have with mine is I sometimes get big eyed and over estimate the yardage . 2 yrs ago shot at an elk in Idaho accross a canyon . Looked about 350 or more to me, didn't have a range finder handy. Anyway I aimed right on his back line and that's about where I shot cuz all I did was scrape some hair off his back . Later ranged it at 240 yds. Sure didn't drop any at that distance. The recoil is a little more than I like but a limbsaver padhelps a lot. Good luck and good hunting.

I have the same gun in stainless with a VX-II. So far so good with mine. Popped a few deer but no elk yet with mine. Gotta love the cross canyon boom sticks.

Re: New Rifle!!
You've got the hardware. Now it's time to learn to shoot it. I know you have shot rifles before. Take this one out and shoot it.. a lot! Learn where it goes at different distances. And learn at what range you can keep your bullets in a 6" circle from field positions. Leave the benchrest at home. Nice to have the equipment. Manditory to learn the skill. (thus ends sermon).
I shoot one and enjoy it a lot. I'm sure you will, too.
