I can't remember his name but there was a contractor that used to go into Central Oregon Builders Supply that hunted cats a lot. He got in a wreack and is crippled now, confined to a wheel chair, but last I heard he was hunting off a four wheeler he had fixed up to hunt on.

Give C.O.B.S. a call and ask for Joe, he'll have the name for you.

I sure miss the days of hound hunting. After they shut us out of the woods up here the dogs grew old and passed on, sickening really. Once you get that dog up and running there's nothing funner than listening to the race. We used to go down and hunt the Estecada area quite a bit, there are still a few hound guys around up here but not many. I know some guys down the gorge that still do it pretty heavily and have some good cat dogs but don't recall anyone from your area.

Good luck in your pursuits and training. Although a live coon in a roll cage is a great start there used to be quite a few companies that sold scents that you could buy and use on fur pieces or rags that we used to get the younger pups going....

I know who he is. His name is Mickey Pearson. I have known him for years. His business is Snowline Drywall. He's a great guy. If you can't get ahold of him let me know I might be able to.

Default Hijacking thread

Here is a dumb question...could you have one good hound and keep it on a leash and track a bobcat? At least get you into the area where you could set up a call?

It's an interesting sport seperated from super good dogs and the average dog that will run anything....

A "really good" dog will strike and run a bobcat in both snow and dry ground. There aren't many guys out there that have enough trust in their dogs to strike a bobcat on dry ground.... Most hound hunters use the aid of snow to find the tracks then turn their lead dogs loose to start the track and then dump the pack to tree the cat....

A dog capable of striking and starting a track on dry ground on his own is a dog that's worth a lot of money. We hunted with one guy that had some dogs that he'd paid $5000-$8000 a piece for. He had a 4 dog pack that was a deadly combo and 90+% of the time he turned loose it would result in a bobcat in the tree.... We'd always hunt with him when their was no snow around....

YES!!!!!! A NEW IFISH HOUND POST WOULD BE AWSOME!!!!! i will contact him and see if he has any ideas. also by running drags i ment using scent on fir which works great to start dogs... but he needs to see somthin alive to get him howln dubl t you have a great lookin dog pm me if you ever come my way and we should tree some kittys... my friend has my dogs brother and another friend has a 4 mo old walker blue tick. were all new to hound hunting but all love to hunt and are already adictided, we havent even treed anything yet. if anyone in oregon at all has hound or wants to get involved with hounds please contact me so we can talk. this is a great sport that died off but remember we can still hunt bobcats. 0ld salt yes if your dog will strike and follow scent on a track in the conditions you wish to hunt in than one dog will tree a bobcat... lots of guys say u need more and im sure ur concern is if the cat will fight, and with a bobcat one dog will do just fine, and you wont want to or need to walk it on a leash it will just hold that wild beast back

Haha, Huntsforfood, you're on! I'd love to get Belle out with some other hounds. When I take her to the dogpark, she'll pick up on one dog and hound it to death (or until the owner gets upset ). I picked up the Innotek 300 to hopefully trash break her. Took her up to Mt hood today and got her on some pretty fresh yote tracks, let her run a little, then ZAPPED HER!! I also broke her of chasing tweety birds (I think).

Thats it! One hell of a nice guy. How's he doing anyway? Been a long time since I've been to COBS. I really admired the way he got himself going again after the accident. That guy is not handicaped, simply inconvienced! He won't remember me but give him my best, I remember him!

Tim Smith lives in Bend, Wes York lives in Prineville, there are so many hound hunters in Prineville it is crazy just go sit at the store and wait for an old guy in a truck with an ass load of dogs and talk to him, I am not joking, I have been to hunting comps in the Ochocos and there were over 100 hounds there.. You need two to three hounds to hunt cat right of you will be more frustreated then anything.. Also invest in a finished dog it will save you time and $$.. A good older dog goes for around $1500-$5000...
