Drift boat seat "ROPE" ????
I will be ready to rope the seat on my wood db. After sitting through a new baby and many years in the garage the poor girl needs out.
I dont know what type of rope to use nylon or poly??? The diameter will be determined by the exsisting holes.
What type of rope works best??
I look/searched the montana river boats page but could not find any info on type of rope.
Thank you all very much
Bryant

Personally, I'd use nylon webbing, easier on the but and zero stretch. But if you want to use rope I'd use something at least 1/2" diameter and no stretch.

I like the webbing, a very long NRS strap can work. My last 2 Kofflers have had rope and it works pretty good as well. I can check the diameter if you want.

Dont waste your time or your back on rope or strapping. Get a plastic boat seat that is padded. Its the only way to get back support.

Replace the rope with a seat, your back will thank you at the end of a day on the sticks !!

Re: Drift boat seat "ROPE" ????
Thanks everybody its on!!!!
3/8 static nylon black .30$ a ft. used less than 50ft but not much left. Just enough left to practice my knots with, 10ft or so. Used a turnbuckle under the seat with "figure eight stopper" knots and it works great.
I think i will have to start thinking about back support it seems important and my back is crap from work anyways.

Re: Drift boat seat "ROPE" ????
Understand your back may have problems, but this is really a personal choice: When I want to really "reef" on my sticks, I would not want a back support getting in the way. Which is why, for me, a rope seat is best.
But if you never are in trickey water, then a back support would never get in the way and would be an advantage.

Re: Drift boat seat "ROPE" ????
The problem I see with a solid seat is that when it rains it collects water and ther- fore you bottom gets wet. A rope or webbing will let the water fall thru and not stay on the seat, there-fore dryer bottom.
Just my .02 cents.
Good luck

Re: Drift boat seat "ROPE" ????
A real seat is the only way to go IMO. It doesn't collect water, because the seat has drain holes. When I really need to reef on the oars, the seat gives me more leverage so can put more pressure on the oars, much better than a rope seat.
In heavy or fast water, the seat keeps me in a better position to row, the seat helps my body stay in the proper rowing position. Of course, saving your back is also a big plus.
I have been rowing a drift boat since the late 70's and when I went to a Clackacraft in 04, which has a seat, I wondered why I had been abusing myself all these years.

Exactly !! First time i rowed one with a seat, i could not fathom why they would ever put rope or webbing on there instead.
