Head a little further south and book with Newport Marina/Charters. I have nothing but great things to say about the Irish and it's always chipper skipper; Ken Peterson.

Or go out on Samson with Dockside. That's Lars, who occasionally logs on and posts here as well.

Re: depoe bay charter advice--weather looking better and better
Are you sure the Kimberly Ann isn't there? I was fishing the same area as
he was on Sunday ... as a matter of fact, at one point we swapped places out
there as he had just limited on bass and I had just limited on Ling Cod. You
might want to try again. Richard has retired from teaching now so he is in Depoe Bay
full time from this point forward ...

I wuz gonna suggest Mike Stowe on the Blitz (an ifish advertiser), but just hopped out to his page and noted that he's down for the winter doing some remodelling.

Re: depoe bay charter advice--weather looking better and better
Steelhooked, can't really answer your question directly.
Every passenger has a different tolerance for the weather. How good are you at hanging onto the rail with one hand, and fishing with the other?
Every skipper & boat has a different tolerance too. Plenty of old threads here about that...especially the Depoe Bay subject. What do you know about the skipper & boat you are going on?
A 10 ft swell with a 20 second period & no wind can be just beautiful, assuming the bar isn't breaking. The present weather system doesn't sound so nice.
For me, when it comes to wintertime fishing (oh, it's winter by the way), I wouldn't plan ahead too seriously. I'd wait until the low pressure system has passed, and high pressure has built up & stabilized for a few days. Only if the weather is actually nice (such as 6 or 7 ft swell or less, & little wind), then make short-notice (next day) plans.
Remember, better days are coming.

Re: depoe bay charter advice--weather looking better and better
well i talked to richard at dockside charters and found out that the samson will be down so he hooked us up on a six pack boat, still weather permitting but it keeps looking better and better. it's down to 2ft wind waves and 7ft swells for saturday. woohoo
