Default Oregon Fishing Update

Oregon Fisheries Update

February 20th – February 26th , 2004

Get prepared for some of the 470,000 spring chinook that will be returning to the Columbia and Willamette Rivers this spring by ordering your supply of Bob's Bait Wraps RIGHT HERE .

Guide packs CAN ONLY BE ORDERED THROUGH OUR WEB SITE and should be ordered before the glut hits in the middle of the season. We guarantee your order will be shipped within 3 days of its receipt so you receive it BEFORE the season starts. So get your orders filled now or risk going without!

Status quo on the Columbia as colored, cold water seems to be keeping all species at low metabolism in the mainstem. The gorge sturgeon fishery is fair for undersize fish and your best chance for a keeper sturgeon is closer to the mouth of the Willamette River. No significant signs of the main run of smelt just yet but they are due any day! The Willamette showed signs of life as consistent catches of springers were being taken at Sellwood Bridge and a few in the Multnomah Channel fishery. Herring is the best early season bait.

The Sandy and Clackamas fished well before the water colored up on the Clackamas. The rivers should fish well from top to bottom over the weekend. Springers will be taken at the mouth by hogliners and plunkers may find favor at Meldrum Bar.

The North Coast also fared well for steelhead this week. All rivers produced fair results and the weekend should be no different. Don't expect to have it to yourself however as many boat manufactures did well in sales this winter- note all the shiny new boats. Wilson, Trask and Nestucca rivers were top producers.

The Siletz is in full swing and should stay productive through March. There will be plenty of anglers there as well. The herring are reported in Yaquina Bay. Fun jigging and a great bait wrap for springer season. Good halibut bait as well!

Alsea steelheaders are catching fish daily with a mix of bright, dark and natives present.

The Coquille is producing well for hatchery fish with the Elk and Sixes providing catch and release action with the primarily native steelies present. The Siuslaw is fishing well for natives and a few hatchery fish. Letz Creek broodstock are available there!

Ice fishing anyone? If you know your way around in this fishery, now is the time to go! Lahontan Trout are falling in Mann Lake!

Trout have been stocked this week at #1 and #2 Big Creek Reservoirs, Olalla Reservoir, Alton Baker Canal , E E Wilson Pond, Junction City Pond, Walling Pond and Walter Wirth Lake.
