Just gave WY $2300 to put in for my dad and I. OUCH! We have max points and I put in for one of the Oct 1 opener units with an OK chance of drawing in the special draw. I have never put in for the higher price tag, but I really want to get my dad on as many good elk hunts as possible over the next few years.
We only archery hunt for elk anymore, but with the Oct 1 opener would pick up the rifles if needed.
Question: Have any of you guys hunted one of the early WY elk hunts? What sort of rutting buggling action was going on in the first week of Oct?
If we draw it would be hard for me to not spend my normal 10 days archery hunting OR during my favorite time in Sept.
It should be great ive never hunted wyoming but the rut will still be going. With a rifle all you got to do is get them to give up there location and sneek in and wackem. Good luck cant wait to see some pics!!!!
There is some awesome elk hunting in Wyoming, I drew a tag 5 yrs. ago and came home with a 338 bull..I also have max points and chances are high to draw that unit again.. In 4 days of hunting a saw 5 different 6 points that would score over 300 Boone and crockett..Good luck to the applicants..
