Default Good tip from Hank Parker!

I just saw a tip from Hank Parker that will work great out west!
For you that use hollow core pencil lead for a drop shot weight, Hank said to put a bend in the weight (like a banana) when fishing around rocks! It will help you from hanging up in the rocks. Thanks to a pro like Hank for a great fishing tip!

Good tip! You would need to be fishing at least 2" to put a bend in the lead! seems awfully heavy for drop shot! Good tip though thanks

I use that much weight when fishing from shore on the willy and I kill the small mouth on it. The spots I like to fish tend to have lots of rocks around.

Several years ago had a great day at Crane Prairie drop shoting a 6" plastic worm in the timber. Used about 1.5"-2" hollow 1/4 pencil lead just pinched on my line about 18" below hook. Works great, use dog toe nail clippers to cut the pencil lead cleanly at the size you want. If you get hung up, pulls off easily. At Crane Prairie just worked the lead over the sunken timber slowly. Cheaper than fancy drop shot weights.

Thanks for the tip. I will try it in the future. How successful have walleye fishermen been using the dropshot method.

This one sounds like a winner.

IMO, not a great idea. Why?....walleye fisherman focus on the bottom 1ft. That would put a chunk of lead right in their face, spooking them.

Instead make the lead the lure...ie, a jig. Preferably with a green chartruse paint job and some bling, like a prop or road runner blade....tipped with a worm & stinger hook.

So forget the drop shot rig and focus on jigs.
My opinion anyway.
