Here is the latest.

"Two men die in Clackamas River

A search has turned into a recovery for two men in the Clackamas River. At 1:30 a.m. Sunday, the men entered the river at the trecherous section known as "The Narrows." The men were camping near the river. The Clackamas County Sheriff's Department doesn't know why the men entered the river. A witness says they quickly disappeared. An Oregon Army National Guard helicopter found the bodies at 7:30 a.m."

My God, My daughter just called me crying. Told me that the two boys were her FRIENDS.
One of the was her ex-boyfriend!

They were drunk and the white boy slipped and fell into the water and the big black boy went in to save them and they both drowned.

I'm going over to my daughters to let her cry on my shoulder.

My God, My God My daughter.

No fun at all. Water, in whatever form, must be respected. This is far too bad, and really, if they were drunk, preventable. Zach, the hour, if anything, is an indication of how ridiculously unreasonable drunk folks can be.

With the water in the low 40's you don't have long. I think about that even with my PFD you only have a few minutes at best. :depressed:

That's a terrible thing to hear. I know that upper stretch of water really well. Been in that area more than a few times. That place gives me the creeps just watching the water run through there.

They had gone camping up at Lazy Bend campground. There is a large cliff up there and Jason (My daughters ex) slipped and fell 10 feet into the water. Jeron went in to save him. They both went under and were found about a 1/4 mile from the park. There were witnesses. There were six of them up there.

No matter how many times I have told these kids, Don't mix the Clackamas River and alcohol. That river is dangerous sober, let alone when you are impaired. These kids today just think that they are immortal. Life is too precious to go screwing it up with alcohol.

They used to come over all the time. Jason was my video man. He could hook up anything to the TV. Jeron was a BIG boy, not fat, just full of muscle and would scare me if I were in a dark alley. They were both great kids. Just not wise in the ways of the world.

Jason was 19, Jeron was 20. Jason's dad had just passed away last year in an auto accident. Now his mother has to bury him too. God help her with her grief. I know that Jason was her pride and joy. His mother does have a daughter left. Hope she learns from this tragedy.

My son went to shcool and played football with Jason- A really great kid.

I know when I was their age I had the attitude of being immortal. I was, "10 foot tall and bulletproof". You always think these things happen to someone else.

This is a wake-up call to kids young and old alike. The only place where alcohol and water mix, is a glass.

My heart and prayers go out to the families.

The kids came over last night to let me know what happened.

I'm really tore up about this accident. I'm not crying like my daughter is, but I definately hurt inside. This is just a waste of a couple of great kids. The only thing they did wrong was to start drinking. Jason just stepped too far back and that was the end. They tried to get a line to him but he couldn't hold on, So Jeron jumped in to save his best friend. Such a tragedy, such a waste. These kids were great kids. You know how all of us were when we were that age. Jason was to turn 20 in a couple of weeks.

They just wanted to go up and drink some beer, where they wouldn't hurt anyone. If they got drunk they could just go to bed and sleep it off. They wouldn't hurt anyone by driving, or by getting into trouble with the law. Yes,they were under age, but so were we when we were drinking at their age.

Sorry to hear of this one. Heard it on the news last night but it is so much harder when it happens to a friend.

It reinforces my resolve about drinking and boating also. "Not on my watch!" I hope we never hear of another water related, alcohol caused death on ifish. Play it smart and safe out there, friends.

Sorry for your loss.
