Default Predator hunting ban in Montana

I read the local paper over in Eastern Oregon this past week, and in the sports page was an article about a group called Watching Wildlife. Seems that they have been on the warpath and fighting for the complete ban of predator hunting in Montana with petitions to the higher ups. The articla also said that Montana and Oregon are the most regulated states and we (Oregon) usually follow Montana after 5 - 10 years.

Here is the link.

"To some, the recently reported count of roughly 6,000 cougars in Oregon seems alarmingly low..."

And a link to the original story in Montana.

A Ban On Predator Hunting would be enough to kill off a lot of hunt opportunities for humans. IMO.

Is it possible that Montana has enough Hollywood land owners to bring this sort of law into effect?

To say that Oregon will follow Montana's lead is a little off base. Which state already has a ban on hound hunting? Hint: It's not Montana.

This has been out for some time and in other forums discussed quite a bit I don't think any thing will come of it. Of course that is why we all want to go hunt over there and WY they control their predators.

Loper we have small areas for them to live unless we start to include the Portland area Oregon also has a higher pop density than Montana. Of course those facts don't faze some people so the 6000 number may seem low.

Not too far off the mark! There are alot of moderate people in Montana who are sick of the vacation home owners coming in, trashing the once rural areas, and imposing their "values" on the Western way of life. An intersting take on this can be found in Jarett Diamond's book,"Collapse."
How the heck can the farmers, ranchers, sheep herders make a living w/o predator control. I can't see that getting much tail wind in the Mnontana legislature.
