Default Live Bait Tank

It's time to start planning the install of the live bait tank.
Does anyone have an idea if I need another raw thru-hull water intake or can I use my existing raw water washdown pump. What size tank 20-30-50gl. Does anyone have a fav. mfg?
The Tuna guys in Wa.,Calf. and the East Coast  know how to spec these things.
Should I plan on a removable tank with deck attachments or mount it on the swim step?

Kamloops,

I have an "Offshore" brand live tank that I took out of my Grady White after I purchased it. This is what the guys in San Diego swear by. The previous owner of my Grady used nothing but live bait. It was his opinion that the Offshore were better due to the ovalized sides, and the way they are designed keeps the water aerated much better. Very few dead bait.

I believe the one I have is an OS65-OD. This is a 65 gallon, ovalized tank, divided in two. 4 Scoop. It also has the translucent fiberglass in the bottom so lights can be mounted under it, and the bait in the tank can be seen at night, or morning.

I was planning on putting it for sale when it got closer to the season. I took it out to make more room for diving, and the boat already has 2 livewells. If you're interested let me know.

Mike

Mike, please put my name on it.
I looked at some websites the other day, that looks like a great tank.

Thanks Mike,
Go ahead and e-mail um, no hurry if I don't need to cut another hole in the hull while the boats up on the ways now.
Now all I need to do is figure out how to tell my crew they need to show up at 4:00am instead of 5:30 so we can go to Ilwaco and get the live bait. That channel should be fun in the fog at 5:00am going the wrong way trying to dodge the Charter Boats.

Tom- you should be able to tee off your raw water wash down. There are several pumps made that have a double pressure setting to act as both (lower for the baitwell and higher for washdown). If you just put a valve in line to the tank you can choke down the flow if it's to high. Too much turbulence (damaging the bait) would be the only problem with high pressure/flow.

The raw water intake in my boat is exactly the way Miss B Haven describes. One Rule pump that furnished the water for livewell, and for the freshwater.

Kamloops- I'll put your name on it. I can take a pic and send you and e-mail if you like.

Shurflo makes a nifty livebait pump that is a dual pump. One side is for the livewell and the other powers the washdown pump.
