Those are some nice big worms you have there. I'm looking forward to see what you get with those things.

Hi,
What kind of 11" worms are you throwing there? Are they skinny, fat, straight tail, curly tail?
Are you willing to be specific? I don't want you to give up "trade secrets" in case your fishin' a tourney...

Thanks for the help, Joel

Bad Habit - what kind of hook set up do you use on one of those things? I like the looks of the second one up from the bottom, looks like a purple slider worm, my favorite!

In his book In Pursuit of Giant Bass, Bill Murphy talks about using these beasties, made by DeLong back in the '80s. He did not have EWGs then, so he used one large, not huge, bait holder hook in the head. 12/0s are available, but you can probably get by a 6/0 to 8/0 . FYI: I found the big Snakes available at Muskie Tales, Inc Baits.

i have the 6/0 , thats what i planned on using originally. but I thought, hmmmm maybe, that leaves a bit to much real estate w/out a hook. I am going to use the 6/0(its big) I will have to read that book. I have seen that title thrown about for while. the 80's wow....

Hi,
Just FYI, Owner Hooks makes a 7/0 and 11/0 offset "J"-hook for this application when using large bulky hooks.

Also, while fishing many of these long styles of worms, I found the 5/0 and 6/0 regular and heavy duty offset hooks work just fine for me.

I've noticed the bass usually bite the hook side only (they aim for the predators head first.) Sometimes, you'll get those small fish biting the tip of the worm. Your goal is for the larger fish, not the smaller ones.

Hope this helps, Joel
