Default Happy New Years

I got back late Saturday after probably the most hard core fishing trip of my life. We made it to Crescent Lake before mid night on new years eve so we had a chance to celebrate the new years at the lodge. After staying a few hours celebrating at the lodge, we launched the boat at 2:30 AM over the snow. We went to bed ( which was in back of a small pick up ) and got up late around 7 Jan 1. The Noaa weather forecast was perfect this time. We easily had winds gust over 30 mph on Jan 1, snow and sleet on Jan 2 and great weather Saturday besides the fact the low was 9 degrees and it never got over freezing. I caught fish all 3 days and caught my first rainbow from Crescent Lake of any size at 3 pounds. My largest brown was only 3 pounds but I did get a chance to net a brown over twice that big. Dan (hookjawfreak) will post pictures, his report and a link to a video of my boat being towed from the lake later. A great way to start the year.

This was a trip for the books, indeed. There was more than a handful of people staying at the resort that thought we were out of our minds The fishing was good and would have been epic had we landed half of the fish that were hooked and lost. Several big browns were lost and we got a good look at 2 of them that were in the 7+ lb range. Those browns can throw a lure like no other fish. The weather on New Years Day was brutal with driving rain and sleet in relentless winds. By the end of that day I was soaked all the way through and freezing cold. It only takes one and I caught mine on Friday with a killer buck brown that went over 7 lbs.

Here's a link to the video of our boat removal

and here's a few photos...

Happy New Year!!!!!

one more shot of the big brown of the trip

Now that's saying something Jimmy. I saw that earlier pic of you covered with snow and icicles dripping off your hat. I don't know about you guys! BTW, nice rainbow. If caught that one he'd be destined for the frying pan.

I kept the rainbow just for dinner tonight. Going on the traeger in a few hours.

With those snow launches you never know if you have a 30 minute or 3 hour task to get the boat in the water. We wanted to get up knowing that all we had to do was walk down to the boat and go fishing in stead of potentially watching the sun come up while struggling to get the boat in.

I understand the "crazy" element completely.
Since I no longer hunt, fishing has taken the place of late season elk hunts and below zero duck and goose trips. That means fishing in January in Central Oregon.

I'll probably see you guys super bowl weekend. Except I'll be in a covered boat. Turning 50 means I have acquired more sense of comfort than I had when I was 25. I fish in a covered boat because I can.............

You ain't seen nothin' yet brother! Wait until you hit the big Six-O. When your favorite part of a department store becomes the mattress section...you know it's all downhill from then on.

You still go into the same stores and look at the same things, you just make sure you know where the restrooms are.....
