Default Sea Kayak Fishing!!

Anybody out there interested in fishing nearshore outcroppings via sea kayak?
I tried it this year down around Brookings, and what a hoot!! If you enjoy bottomfish and adventure--it's your game
I caught 1 real nice day, and 1 crappy one. Timing is everything. Catching is really great in nearshore areas--caught Ling's, Cab's, Black Rockfish, and Sea Trout (Greenling). Found some INCREDIBLE places to fish, but it takes effort, and a buddy to do safely. Anybody out there want to have some serious fun, and get in shape too??
I also want to get dive certified and use them as dive platforms for spear fishing. May even snorkel, come to think of it!

Good Job...

What kind of boat. Most kayak fishing at this time is done out of open boats.

I have done a little fishing out of my kayak..cedar mahogany boat, but since it has a spray skirt and closed cockpit it is hard to manange the equipment. To kayak fish "easily" takes a boat pretty much dedicated to that i think, which I don't have.

It is a gas though. I read an article about a guy down in S. calif who caught a large thresher shark from a kayak, open type, with relatively light gear.

WildHawg, I've fished with Dennis Spike out of Malibu. It's a ball. I've thought about fishing the Oregon coast ever since. Let me know. I'm a long ways off but willing to travel. I also have an open top kayak that I use for fishing. Let's go!

We used them to hunt beach deer during the later part of the season in SE Alaska. Go up current and quietly drift down the beach. Works good.
