Re: Pilar & Crabbing
Hey- those are my crabs Tom!
I just don't even know whether to waste another weekend down there. 40 knots South on Sat. What was the forecast yesterday? 25 knots and it was OK at Bouy 20?
Arrghhh.... another good tide weekend down the tubes? :depressed:
Hmm... just noticed this was from the main board. Tom- you may want to make note of that when you copy over.

Re: Pilar & Crabbing
Sorry to everyone.
I unintentionally was very rude. I honestly didn't realize that my post over would be interpreted as if I actually had done the trip. My apologies to all. I'm still learning this form ediquitte thing and obviously have a very long way to go.

Re: Pilar & Crabbing
Hey, Tuna Tom, lighten up. Thanks for the report and we should consider your information when we plan the crabbing trip. The beauty of this discussion group (Salty Dogs) and the other ones to some degree, is that people fish everyday and some people will tell you straight up what happened and where. This can save you much soul searching on where to go and what to do when you head out with rod and boat keys in hand. As a rule salty dogs are very giving in this regard and for the most part there are no zipperlips on this forum. That is the whole "Hey man, I caught a huge fish, here's the photo and never mind where exactly or how because I'm hogging the spot all for myself", scene you don't find it here. Just try hogging something like the Pacific Ocean, I dare you.
People give up methods, waypoints, offer rides and all kinds of info. They know they will get it back in spades and they know it helps the other dogs have fun doing what they love to do.
You haven't been here long but I see you doing this sharing thing too. You belong in other words so keep trying and it'll be ok.
It is a good idea to remember context when you post on the discussion board. Anybody can wander into the discussion with no idea what went on before. They may not have read all of the posts that you did. Just add a link to the new post that points to the one you are talking about now, that usually works pretty good.
I screw this up all the time and I don't think you could really call it rude. It's just confusing to someone thats been away for a while.
By the way (BTW) watch out, this internet virtual fishing thing can be addicting. Don't ask me how I know this.

Re: Pilar & Crabbing
No apology necessary TT. In fact, just reading it reminded me what I can expect as soon as this dd d d d damned wind quits blowing and I get to try out all these Tuna! carks I've got hogging my freezer.
Poor me, scads of bottom fish fillets, then filled 5 of 6 slots on my hali tag, a dozen tuna carks or so, a nice pile of shad, numerous salmon, and then I have to go and kill an elk. I attempted to put my elk tag in the freezer with the meat like I always do, and you know what? No room! I had to tape it to the outside of the door.

Re: Pilar & Crabbing
Tuna Tom, sorry, I've got programmer-itis today. We could go there but October in crappy weather on the big C is an iffy deal. I know where this guy was fishing and caught many crabs there too.
We could try it Monday if you like, sounds like the crab are there to be had. It would be a hell of a boat ride if nothing else.

Re: Pilar & Crabbing
picked my sister up at the airport yesterday, she came in from boise for the weekend, said what do you want to do sis, she said i want to go crabbing, i said ok . we headed of to tillamook but it was to windy, drove down to nehalem and it was ok. we got 12 crabs in 3 hours in 3 pots. thats pretty good for me .. i like garibaldi the best for crabbing, i know theres alot in warrenton/hammond area but personally i would rather crab 6 hours for a limit in calm water than 2 hours in sloppy water. like pilar said the columbia river mouth is a unpredictable this time of year.heres a pic
