Re: Late October Tuna!!!??
From the looks of things, there's potential tuna water within about 15 miles of Depoe Bay area as well. It just needs to lay down long enough to go find'em.

Re: Late October Tuna!!!??
Good thing the TA meetings are starting because there are certainly some addicts on this site  After viewing the whole Columbia River Bar breaking this weekend and watching Bouy 11 get submerged by 10' rollers, don't think it would be a good idea to venture too far off shore for any reason. Hopefully things out of DB are a little less wild!
Be safe out there, yours are bigger than mine!

Re: Late October Tuna!!!??
Better take Moses with you to part the seas after ya sink the boat. Hopefully it wont be to long of a walk.
Tuna is over, the memories still linger
the proof is still visable on my thumb and finger.(ouch)
Line burning runs into the deep abiss,
tuna jumping, clones thumping, the sight of Dahl porpoise.
Fall is here, there can be not a doubt,
we give up the tuna, our bottom lip sticks out.
Nine months of longing for the vast open seas,
It is enough to bring a tuna fisher to his knees.(her too for that matter right ocean blue)
Yet the tuna will be there again next year,
we all prepare and we stow our gear.
Miss B., Minaki, Cindy Lou, Pilar,
Mr.Fisherman, Sea Jypsee, Ugly green will go far.
Popeye, Skein and Keta too,
all will be back on the Ocean so Blue.
So if your name is not on this list,
Hold up your arms and clench your fist.
Nine months from now carnage will happen,
just be ready to say I..I Captain.
TUNA!!!!! TUNA!!! TUNA!!!!
Wow, I need help. Can someone help me catch those pretty little yellow butterflies. I love butterflies.

Re: Late October Tuna!!!??
I haven't given up on the possibility yet. I'm still holding out hope that we'll get yet one more chance to break out for a trip this year. Hmmmm, a Thanksgiving Tuna perhaps?

Re: Late October Tuna!!!??
Mark......I know you are just saying "tuna, tuna, tuna" just to torment us and make us feel worse than we already do. Of course, what do I do but instantly click over to the stonewall bank bouy reports and low and behold........if I were there right NOW, it might work.
5 foot @ 8.5 seconds
1.6 wind wave
and howling from the east at 1.9 kts.
AND a water temp of 58.8 degrees
I can feel my mind starting to lapse into the no-tuna-coma, and the only thing that may help is a trip to Mexico for some Ahi (yellowfin).

Re: Late October Tuna!!!??
That's right Marty. Sure, it's October. And that means good weather will only come in short windows. But there is still a huge warm water body out there, connected to the south. Yes there are weather systems tracking through but the jet stream has not shifted down from Alaska yet so we're not getting the cold stuff that would put down the warm water for good.
It's not that I'm sooooo optomistic, I'm just not that good at writing these poems / blues songs about "ooh the tuna are gone and the winter will be so long; what on earth shall I do but cuddle up for 8 months with my cheap tequila and go to tunaholics meetings"...; it's easier to hope for one last trip, even if I have to drive south for a day to get it.

Late October Tuna!!!??
....if the weather would lay down for a few days. Temps look pretty darn good a little ways offshore, especially for the Coos Bay gang. Any crystal-ball weather predictions 10 days out?
