Default Oregon License Agent Nightmare...Have You Had Anything Like THIS Happen to You?

A buddy of mine had a S.I. WMA Reservation for a good unit and invited me to accompany him out there on the 1st (today).

We'd talked about it and I reminded him, "Make SURE to get your Reservation soon here, so you don't have to wait til the last minute"

Oh yeah that was "the plan".

So yesterday evening, I'm out rearranging some of my decoys in the back of my rig, switching over from free standing (ice/snow) dekes to some bags of floaters.

Miss Lil comes out, cellphone in hand and says, "Hey, it's your hunting buddy and he wants to talk to you". I tell her, "Please tell him I'll call him back in a few, I'm rumaging around out here and I'll be done soon.

When I get back in the house, I call my friend, thinking we're just going to touch base about what blind we'll ideally get, backup "Plan B" and maybe backup "Plan C".

To my surprise I hear this PANICKED sound to his voice as he says, "Hey I'm over at Freddy's trying to get my Reservation and they CAN'T FIND IT! I stopped by Joe's and they were closed, so was Bi-Mart, and now this is the FOURTH Fred Meyer's I've been to and NONE of them know how to find the Sauvie Is. Hunt Reservations on their modules! What can I do?"

So he hands his cellphone to the gal who's his clerk at Fred Meyers and I start talking to her. She doesn't know WHAT it is my friend's trying to buy and I do my best to explain it to her.

I explain that I know that it IS in there, SOMEWHERE! And that often I've seen *** clerks have lots of trouble locating it, because it's NOT USER FRIENDLY and almost seems like it's "hidden".

After about 5 minutes of trying she finally say, "Oh there it is!" And away we go!

But, my beef is that my friend, with ONLY Fred Meyers stores available to him during his 11th hour plight (yeah, I know I already ragged on him! ) weren't able to help him (at 3 stores) and turned him away, and we almost missed our hunting opportunity.

So, really there are TWO seperate problems here...

ONE (and the most significant) is that the *** Licesne/Tag computer, while different (and perhaps in some ways better) than the previous version still isn't as user friendly as it could be!

And TWO Clerks using the system aren't very well familiarized with HOW to use the system.

Although I really think that item ONE is the main problem?

Has anybody else experienced any of these *** nightmares as well?



P,S. The GOOD news is that we DID make it out to our hunt. We did snag a pretty good spot.

And...we were done before 11 a.m. with 2 limits of good Ducks and getting back in and out of the rain!

Glad you got it all sorted out!
Haven't had any problems like that yet... The gals at the Portland Sportsmans know exactly what they are doing with the *** system.

dont forget you can print at home now also open 24 hours and no waiting

when i first started hunting i went to walmart and tryed to get a waterfowl licence well i asked for my small game and migotory bird and my duck stamp well since i was new i dident know what was what so i get checked by a officer out hunting luckily he fealt sorry for me and let me go i will never go there agian

I think the new system is very user friendly and *** agents have been getting better since the new system has been started.


And for the people having troubles finding their SI ressies in the computer, Good grief guys...it's this way every year. The reservations were drawn under an 08 liscense, so they must be purchased under an 08 liscence.

It's that simple.

If the clerk tries to log in under the new 09 liscense, your reservation will not be found.

yes, the girls at freddys have no idea how to find SI reservations lol.

We ran into that at big 5 as well. They are really patient and hubby finally got his apps. The *** hates trip was when they released that beast it was so bad at Bi-Mart that we where helping the guy by reading the book on how to do it.

I miss the old days of by hand peice of paper.

The only license/tag issues I have ever had were at Freddies, so I chalk it up to training issues.

It took about 30 minutes for the lady at bimart to find my dads NW goose permit and she only found it after calling ODFW.

Geez, when you look at these (and yes, I know that some places don't pay as well as others) it really seems that the *** computers are (or should be?) set up FOR this level of training/experience!

So, I'm thinking that they STILL need MORE WORK to make them more user friendly?

Even IF it made their Menu screen a little more crowded, having an Index that listed all items Clearly, where you could push that button and it would take you RIGHT there!

Just sayin...

Yeah I hear ya...and agree

It IS "better" now (but still not quite "there" where it could be)

He WAS logged in under his '08 Lic Number and they STILL couldn't find it!

They just threw their arms up in the air and sent him away!

Pretty discouraging by the time you hit the 4th Freddy's!
