Re: ...
Yes! (You are crazy- but you already knew that) Crabbing at night in t-bay? I've left 'em out over night but pulling pots (or rings) in the dark is quite a challenge isn't it? Might be OK if you have a moon (it's a quarter moon right?) and clear sky but I wouldn't count on that. If no one else leaves pots out overnight it might be doable though, at least you'd know who's pot is in the prop.
Tides are looking good, but I think I'm waiting for Saturday (emphasis on the "day" part). I think I'm going regardless of the forecast, running out of time with the boat in the salt here and NO crab in the freezer!
Keep a sharp knife handy Pilar!
PS- watch out for that Green Day marker on the dolphin in between the corner (Sow and pigs) and the CG dock. Last time I went by it at 15 knots in the dark it wasn't lit. Sure made a big shadow going by the side of the boat though

Re: ...
I'll be on the bay on Wednesday. Call me for a live update on conditions if you want a live reading. I'll be removing all the large male crabs while I'm there, so I guess that leaves fishing as your only option!

Re: ...
Pilar- it wasn't the rocks, I too stay away from that side of the green markers. There's a second Dolphin/green daymarker between the one at the sow and the CG station. It's THAT ONE that does not have a light on it (or didn't then anyway). I was beelining between the first one (on the corner by the sow) and the next one I could see (by the CG station with the green flashing light). The unlit dolphin between went by close enough I could see the shadow even though it was pitch black out and I was staring at the lights up ahead (way way to close, the only thing between me and it was the crunch). They had the unlit one right on the path between the two lit markers!
I've polished a lot of props on the flats out there Pilar. Pretty much got intimate with every sandbar in the lower bay and a few close to the upper bay. I got some pretty weird looks at the picket fence in my big white glass pig.
I never had the guts to try to get all the way across the middle flats to the west channel though (in the daylight let alone in the dark). I have snuck up through crab harbor and around the point and dropped into the west channel that way. I also messed around a little to long and had the start of the outgoing on the way back. Almost spent a tide on that point.
Good luck- the cyalume thing sounds fun. Reminds me of fishing for flounder by lantern light in Newport when I was a kid!

Re: ...
Mr Fisherman- S 35 knots (if it's that in the bay) means you'l lhave the place to yourself. Spent a day tied to the dock there many moons ago during one of these rain and blows. NO ONE went out that day. About 3 or so it just died. Completely calm, no rain, a few sunbreaks through the clouds. None of my bus could be rousted out of there nappy time so Iwent out and trolled the Ghost Hole and installed my electronic compass that afternoon. Got the compass in and working and landed abot a 20 lb hen. Never did see another boat on the water.
PS- there was 3-4 foot wind waves all day before the break. Comes up quick and dies quick, all local effects of course.

Pilar,
this week-end is "checkout dive for Reed College and Oceanblue. I'll be down so a "bay vis report" would be very helpful as I haven't decided weather I'm taking the class to Newport or Tillamook. But will have both the BLACK ROCKET and BLACK TORNADO available to the dives

Re: ...
Pilar,
Grab your cane and deckhand and head up here. We can have a gimp race. The fall weather is nice and the BIG trout in Klamath Lake should be hitting. If not the browns in some of the higher lakes will be. Crawdads should be fat in the Williamson too.
It won't be the same as tuna but its fishing.

Re: ...
Come on John have a happy birthday anyways. Break out a jar of TUNA, stick a candle in it and dream of next years successes. No time to be unhappy. Think about it this way. Your body needs time to mend (especially since you are older) and the Tuna need to regenerate for next years slaughter on the water. So its all good. May drive us all a little crazy but that's okay.
Happy Birthday John. Go dance in the rain or something will ya.
