Default Crabbing this Monday

I want to go crabbing Monday. Was planning on either Netarts or Nehalem Bay. I'm a little familiar with Nehalem, but I haven't crabbed Netarts in about 20 years and don't remember anything about it. Can anybody give me any help or advice? Any other locations closer to the Portland area? I have a 16ft Smokercraft. thanks!

Netarts is a small and shallow bay with some shifting sand bars especially between the boat ramp and heading toward the mouth, so you have to be good at reading the water if you are not familiar with it. Immediately up bay from the ramp is a good channel that runs along the road before bending around and heading further up the bay. This area is the easiest but gets very crowded on the weekends because it is small, but you might be ok during the week at this time of year. There is a local pack of seals there so need to use traps. Can get info at Bayshore Marina & RV Park. Good luck.

Thanks Fortywinks. Can anybody tell me if this rain will wash the crabs out of Nehalem bay?

I just came back from Nehamlem bay, and the crabbing is excellent in the channel running seaward of the State park boat landing... we brought back 7 large crabs with a single pull for 3 traps. Other boats were working the area actively and were coming home with 30 to 40+ crabs, depending on how long you're on the water. The river isn't washed out with fresh water yet, but that can easily change today.. Good luck, Craig

Just got back from Netarts, 28 keepers in 2 hours for the 3 of us. We could not fit another crab in our cooler

It was our first time crabbing Netarts and just followed the other boats. We ended up down by the mouth in 13-15 feet of water.

Good luck!!
