Default Depoe Bay Fleet

Hello all,

I plan on mooring the boat in Depoe Bay this upcoming summer.

I just wanted to say "Hi" and introduce myself.

My father and I have been working the Oregon Coast first as commercial Salmon Trawlers, then running Charter Boats the better part of my life. We have close friends in D.B., and plan to make it our home port for the summer.

As the rookies to a home port, we sincerely hope to meet, and become close friends to the fleet that calls Depoe Bay home.

We'll be running a 25 foot Grady White, and hope to hook up with the other Salty Dogs that can enhance our skills. We've been on the Ocean our entire lives, but we're not too proud to realize that those with local knowledge are the true masters.

My name is Mike (Jr.) and my dad's name is Mike as well. We look forward to getting the boat geared up for the upcoming year.

If you want a story...I have a few.....

1) lady with raincoat that zipper didn't work when sick
2)crab pot deckhand that decided to go for a swim
3)The "Foulweather Triangle"
4) Why the wife doesn't run the commercial salmon boat when over the Rockpile
5) Circumnavigation of the Columbia Lighship
6) How not to gaff your first 100# halibut
7)How to change oil hoses and fittings, and replace lost fluid 20 miles at sea
8) How tides and the CG work with a Salmon Trawler

Best regards,

Mike

Welcome to Dopey Bay or as the Newport fleet calls it "Diaper Bay". Be aware that
there is presently a fuel situation at Depoe Bay. The owner/operator of the fuel
dock pulled the plug a couple of weeks ago so there is presently no fuel in port.
You either need to get fuel off the truck when it comes in or run to Newport to get
fuel. The Harbor Commision is working the issue and I have been assured that although
there is no short term solution, a solution will be in place by next season ... or at
least by next summer.

I've got the funny looking metal boat on the end of Dock 3 (Pacific Mistress). Feel
free to stop by for a chat any time ... My boat is usually in the water from the beginning
of April until the middle of November.

Hi'ya and Welcome to The Worlds Smallest Harbor of Depoe Bay. It sounds like you have plenty of experience on this part of the ocean.

As Mark mentioned above, getting fuel here is a bit of a challange currently, but hopefully by the time you have your boat down here, that situation will be resolved.

My boat is on the south side of Dock 2...about 2/3 the way out. The Sea Jypzee.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

We really are looking forward to the upcoming year. Certainly, we can't wait to go TUNA! fishing again. It has been awhile since our last foray.

I've explained to my wife the cameraderie of a local fishing fleet, and she's looking forward to it, as I am as well. What a great feeling, swapping stories on the dock, calling your friends to the fish, or helping out each other when needed.

It's going to be a LONG winter!

Thanks again for the warm welcome.

Though we've had a fair amount of success in the past, it's the present that counts. It's pretty tough to eat pictures of the fish you caught last year or the year before!

I look forward to meeting all of you!

Mike
