Default Roosevelt Bowhunting Questions

For the 2009 season I am mainly going to focus my efforts on roosevelts. Not quite made up my mind if I am going to put in for one of the big 3 archery elks or pt saver due to what is going to happen with work and economy. I have hunted roosevelts on the weekends and went over east for 8 days the end of the season. What are some of your guys calling strategies on these bulls ? Is it better to locate from the road or get down into the canyons a ways and locater bugle ? We have always located from the top got an answer and got the wind or waited for it to change and bailed in. This year might try something different. I would like to hear how you guys do it and are sucessful.

The Roosies don't always answer a call and come in silent lots of times especially early in the season. Best thing to do is find a good area that you know has elk and just hunt it. Get to know the land and how the elk move around. As the season progresses and it gets closer to the rut, the elk will confine themselves to a much smaller area and will not be out free roaming. If there are several bulls within a small area, they will call among themselves and you can locate them by just listening. If you rely on your own calling to locate animals you'll go right by many good places that you should be hunting.

i hunt roosevelts occasionally a weekend here and there during the general season, i plan on hanging some cams up in the saddle mountain unit this spring and finding some of those spots that hold elk.
