Turkey hunting trophy page
Turkey hunting is an addiction. I hunted turkeys for the first time in l985. I killed my first bird opening morning on my birthday in l986 and I was hooked, and I have been chasing those crazy birds ever since.
I have been state to state and across the country and fulfilled my Grand Slam dreams about ten years ago.
I hunted Madras, OR for the first time this spring due to the heavy snowpack everywhere else and killed my 5lst bird on my 5lst birthday. It was one of the most challenging and rewarding birds I had ever killed.
Turkey season 09 is right around the corner and the fever is starting. I would love to see your pictures from previous years and hear your stories. Here is the picture of the bird I killed

Re: Turkey hunting trophy page
Congrats on the birds! I too have been addicted to turkey hunting since I heard my first gobble 14 years ago. I have been fortunate to hunt quite a bit as well and recently punched a tag on my 57th turkey. There have been a few hens, some jakes and quite a few big toms in there as well. As I set up on this tom, my mind was already racing towards spring.
Here is a photo of my recent fall bird
10 inch beard, 3/4 inch spurs and tipped the scales at 20 lbs.
I have quite a few photos on film but gathered a few from the digital files.

Re: Turkey hunting trophy page
Turkey-o-holics!! I like it! Been hunting them crafty devils for about 20 years now. Could sit and tell you "blown turkey hunt" stories all day long! I had to "teach myself", so you that hunt know what I went through. Took six seasons of blown hunts to finally kill one. Now I'm a "seasoned" turkey hunter, and Vice President of the Fort Vancouver Gobblers chapter of the NWTF for 14 years. That's how "bad" I got the bug! Was fortunate enough to whhhhhack a 6 year old bird last spring! The Bio said to me "Ken, do you know how many 6 year old birds there are? One, and you just killed it!" The thing was HUGE! Big old giant head, 21 inch wing feathers, rounded tail feathers, etc... I cant show pictures for some "computer type reason" or I'd show him off. Took five trips to get him. He was smart or should I say "well educated"! Have to agree with some of the other posts about "ruffling our feathers" a bit early, but that has already happened. You see, I have tickets for the NWTF Banquet that we are having on Jan 31st here in Vancouver. If you'd like to go shoot me an email or call me at 360-604-2915. If I don't answer, leave me a message 'cause I'm probably out hunting ducks and geese!!

Re: Turkey hunting trophy page
My first Longbeard back in the mid 80's. Didn't have much call selection in the stores here in Oregon, no TV shows to watch, no videos, no websites to look at, just got out and "did it".
Quite afew Oregon birds in between...here's my longbeard from last spring.

Re: Turkey hunting trophy page
Nice work on the toms fellas! I find myself playing with calls and dreaming of the sweet sounds and smells of spring quite often. Fall turkey hunting is fun, but it does not compare to strutting gobblers.
I can't wait!

Re: Turkey hunting trophy page
HEY GUYS I love seeing all the great turkey pictures.
Turkey season is only 106 days 8 hours and 26 minutes away !!
Break out your camo. Chaulk up your turkey calls.
Dust off your turkey decoys. Before you know it will be here.

Silverpicker, I see the same tree in two different pictures. Nice spot. Do you build a blind at the top of a meadow every year looking north to some old growth Ponderosa at a rim?

Naa, it's just up higher in an area I find some wiley old Tom's late in the season. No real good spots for pics where I kill the birds, so I head out to this little clearing because there's a big stump that works perfect for my camera & screw-in pod.
It also holds some remnants of the big ole Merriam's which I'm partial to hunting.

Re: Turkey hunting trophy page
I cant wait til this spring. My hopes are to start in California, then hit the youth weekend here in Oregon and Washington. I'll start hunting this year in Washington (fingers crossed) and then hit Idaho and Oregon probably last.
It would be fun to get some guys together and do a weekend Ifish hunt for birds. Southern Oregon would be our best best for good success and mots of public land opportunities.

Re: Turkey hunting trophy page
As I was putting my little collage together, I kept thinking about all the turkey hunts I have been part of - almost too many to remember.
My most memorable ones were taking kids for their first birds and taking my friends father before he died of cancer on a hunt.
I wanted him to get a bird pretty bad and called in a HUGE tom for him one afternoon. He missed, but the way he talked about that hunt you would have thought he killed it. That was pretty fun for sure.

2007-Here's my first long beard:
The next day, we got my cousin his first one and I filled my second tag.
Didn't get to hunt last spring, I'm not sure if I will get to this spring either. I sure miss it. I've been in on a lot of fun hunts as well. I'm going to go break out the box call...

Hey guy It sounds like you haven't had much luck the past three years.
But persistence pays off. (Suggestion) Try Southern Oregon . There are alot of birds down there, but alot of private property. If you can get permission from a landowner, it's pretty much a Slamdunk. There are turkeys in every pasture, every field and every front yard. They are so domesticated you can pretty much walk up to the flock and shoot the one you want. They are not much of a challenge but it will give you a chance to get a few under your belt and some experience. Then you can head over to Northeast Oregon /Central Oregon and experience what a true turkey hunt is all about.
So keep trying and look forward to seeing your turkey pictures on Ifish.

This is true to those who choose to hunt this way. You can have some very good success hunting public land (tons of it in southern oregon as well) and be rewarded just as well. There is no reward is shooting a domestic bird and shooting a bird that does not spook will not teach you to be successful in the REAL turkey woods.
There is some really good hunting in places other than Central Oregon.

Re: Turkey hunting trophy page
NE Oregon? Wild? Damn things kept running into my back yard and eating apples every day when I lived in Lostine. Probably domesticated over the years, though.
So anyone in it for the dinner? I would say there's not much shame in blasting a backyard turkey as long as it tastes the same when it hits the plate.

Re: Turkey hunting trophy page
I am good with all of it. I only hunt public land because I hate knocking on doors and like to see new country. Some guys like knocking on doors and some like to hunt out of blinds. Others get guides, hunt property their friends own, or just tag along. It is all good and no method is better than another.....simply personal preference.

Well, a lot of people seem to think so!!! I just haven't slammed the hammer down yet!!! I need private property or more time to scout. Maybe my new longbow will attract them!
No turkeys in Hebo! Sheesh, what are you going to tell me next? No deer or west of Hebo?
