Geoff... The answer is... Not like that one. I have shot Wig that were coming into a storm phase or had streaks of white but not full blown and I would even say that this one is only 80% Storm but still a very rare bird.

Good luck getting any real data on it. You talk to some people that supposedly are in the know and when you mention "Storm Wigeon" you can get some funny looks. If I'm some place glassing large numbers of wigeon 2-3 thousand (American Wigeon) in any one spot I would say I will see 1 out of 500 that has some kind of storm characteristics. Full Blow Storm (Mostly or ALL WHITE) might be more like 1 in 5000 so YES I would say you are right and they are more rare than seeing Euro's.

I think they are harder to find too simply because they don't "pop" like a Euro mixed in with Americans.

Sweet picture man.

Sweet pics, and nice thread Joe.

I don't have very many unique pics, but here i the only Euro I have ever seen in the wild.

Took this pic when I was about 13 years old

This isn't a unique bird but I took it when I was 13 also. Kinda cool.

That bird was definitely a whie faced ibis. They are really cool looking birds. Great thread and cool pictures. I have seen some pretty odd looking ducks on the Kalama River by the weir. Cross breeds or something.

Thanks. Yes, they are. The Avocet was in the Summer Lake State Wildlife Area and the Palliated Woodpecker was right here at our home in Beaverton a couple of years ago. Don

just a question, why are tarsus' so rare in oregon if they band do quite a bit of the banding up north? i understand that birds that are banded in ak are shot and reported in arkansas also, but we get a lot of birds from ak and canada too?

The easy answer is that the banding projects on most of the birds we see do not dictate that a Tarsus band be placed on those birds (the one exception being Pac Black Brant, some Aleutians, and some Clown Ducks). The ones in the picture (I thought was a white tarsus) but it turns out it was a gray tarsus with no letters that was a part of a local banding subset of urban birds.

Thanks for the heads up on the Ibis..I googled them up and see their range does just extend into Southeast Oregon...

I saw these whoopers a few minutes later...Unique to a west sider that only see them flying over...

Saw this white crow the other day...Kinda figured he is unique also...

And a Barred owl I saw last deer season..What makes them unigue is they are not natives, but are expanding their range into Oregon displacing the Spotted owl...

What you can't tell based on the background? I know it's cropped pretty bad but I will give you 2 guesses where this was taken

Does this help narrow it down?

Decided later that it was wild, but couldn't ever catch it again. For a few weeks I saw it twice a day....It'd flush from near a trap on Sauvie's Eastside, then later in the day it'd be near a trap on the Westside.

Some great shots posted here,
where does one begin?

In moments frigid,
with fingers frostbitten
in the first few hours after the dawn

there is a space that no word or painting could ever improve upon
I feel better to know that I ain't the only guy calling in sick on a beautiful day
when the light is perfect,
all is better
work improves,
by moods brightened
by the light falling back down in illumination bounced down from a swiftly setting sun
scattered as light does
freely
to you and me
and everyone
