Default The Sea Lion will Roar No More....

Cause it has a new Suzuki 90 HP 4 Stroke!

lots of reasons for going with Suzuki...

They say that once you've tried Black, ya never look back. Well my friends I am pretty certain that , for me, I made the right choice.
I chose Suzuki. Why? Well the biggest reason was that it would turn the 19 pitch prop. Second, electronic Fuel Injection. Man is it quiet. More important than these is a good, trusted local dealer. Folks in the know that have had the opportunity to install and operate these motors more often that us common folks were very impressed with the Suzuki 90 over the Honda. Among the many and I do say many reported pluses on the Suzuki side for a C-Dory at least is the tilt and trim. There is no need for the wedge to be installed for the motors tilt trim to be able to get the bow down. Did I mention that it was quiet? At 5600 RPM (6000 red line) the 19 pitch prop pushed my 22' Angler at about 33 mph. When it breaks in it should increase a couple of hundred RPM, just right for the 19 pitch prop.
The throttle response was smooth as a babies backside. And it matches my tow rig . Routine maintanence will be simple as the drains are well laid out. The motor even has a built in hose bib for flushing the motor at the dock without running the motor.
Over all I am quite satisfied and look forward to wearing it out. All hoses and control cables have been replaced with the best available. It is smooth and did I mention quiet?
Initially I was not overly impressed with the power, however, I will revisit this after my Ocean evaluation. I may have allowed myself to think that just because it is quiet it isn't as fast or powerful. I do believe that it has more torque and that it will handle the loads at sea better than what I had by a far margin.
Maybe I'll go target some Srurgeon while I can still keep one or two.
After the 20 hour service I will post numbers for mileage and give a report on my satisfaction. I have a small handful of friends who have the new Suzuki 4 strokes and they all rave about them.
I still have to check to make sure my kicker fits...

Ray on a quieter Sea Lion

I am not at liberty to discuss price because I drove a hard bargin and negotiated with my former IBM skills. But I will tell you that deals are to be had on 2003 motors right now. Don't wait too long or they will be gone.
I just got in on the 6 year warranty and last years deal... a perfect combo...

Ray,

Congrats on the new motor.

Double check your owners manual on the flush port. There was a post a while back about these ports. Some are only for flushing the lower unit. I believe most are designed to be flushed with the motor running so that the thermostat has a chance to open and flush the entire motor.

Anyway, glad to see you are back on the water.

Joe

WhoooooHoooooo! Dem fishies better look out now - Mr Fisherman is back!

Good deal. I know it was killin' you to have your boat down, but it sounds like you've got that taken care of in grand style.

I sure like my Suzuki, but with only about 35 hours on it, it should run good! Mine, too, is really quiet and seems pretty thrifty. When I get my flowscan I'll know for sure.

Congrats! And good to know you're back on the water.

And, Birdnest, thanks for the heads-up. I don't use that flush port, but if I ever did I wouldn't have thought about the thermostat.

I plan to use my flush bag most of the time but may try the flush port at the doks on overnight trips as that's what it was intended for.
The dealer told me in no uncertain terms not to run the motor when you use the adapter as water is not circulated through the water pump impellor.
If the motor is run with only the flush adapter connected and the pickup high and dry it would have the same effect as running the motor in the parking lot to warm it up before launching... Toasted impeller, overheat motor, large cash amounts departing already empty wallet...
I appreciater your concern though. Can't wait to get her wet.

I double checked the manual. If you use the flush port DO NOT RUN THE MOTOR.
It is designed to allow you to flush the motor WITHOUT having to run it. I will likely still flush with the flush bag because I am a firm believer but I may take advantage to flush this way if the line to get out isn't too long.

Mike, when are you gonna get in the boat? Have heater, will travel

Mel, wanna go get some crab in my boat? Gimme a call.

KJ, Thanks for being there when I needed you. It is always a pleasure to see you out there. Wave as you go by...

Halibut is still open and if the weather cooperates I have a score ta settle with a certain long fin species... Sooner or later it is always latter and blood will spill...

Sounds great Ray. I'm sure you will love this setup. If things clear up in 2 weeks, I would be interested in a Friday or Saturday run to the Pile - keep us posted on your plans.

Stay tuned...
