Default Think It Will Work?

Finally got most of the decisions made on the major pieces and ordered the new craft today. Didn't have anything worthy of flying the Salty Dog colors so had to upgrade. Delivery is set for the second week of April, so should have enough time for outfitting and testing before next season.

Almar 24 Sounder
Cuddy sleeping for 2
Hardtop Cabin 8'
Alaskan bulkhead with slider door
Offshore bracket
Twin 150 Yamaha 4 strokes
Floor fish box
120 gallon fuel tank
EZ Loader trailer

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Wow, that's a great boat.

Something to think about though might be a bigger fuel tank. I'm not sure what the consumption rating of the twin 150's is but 120 gallons seems a little lite, at least for long tuna runs.

I've got a 2 stroke 120 and have 82 gallons and wish I had more. Since you're ordering her brand new, now is the best time to go bigger!

If you're planning long offshore trips, the other item you'll want is a fuel flowmeter. Navman, Standard Horizon, Floscan, whatever, just get one.

If you've got plans for any other jewelry, ie. radar, gps, fishfinders, cb's, VHF's, etc., get them to run the wiring and do the mounting if you can. Much easier to do when things are still all torn apart.

Also, as I've noticed from some others that have recently had boats built, push for as early as a delivery as possible because they WILL ALWAYS RUN LATE! I can only imagine, but it must be the worst feeling in the world to have fishing season start without your new boat in hand!

Good luck and I can't wait to see it out on the Blue!

One thing that comes immediately to mind is to get the good through-hull transducer w/temp sensor put in while the boat is being fabricated. Of course you'll have to narrow down the fishfinder (like a Furuno 582) to match it. You'll be be so happy that you can run full speed and still get a good bottom & baitfish read, instead of having to slow down like you would for a transom mount.

Also, how are the fish boxes drained? Is there a macerator pump hooked up or a diaphragm pump? Otherwise the fish chunks will clog up the lines, and they're usually in tight places so install the macerator while it's being built. Same goes for any device that will end up in a tight place; put it in before the spaces are all enclosed.

TG, that sounds like a dream boat. You really pulled out the stops, didn't you. Almar's are tough, well-built boats. Congratulations!

The jewelry stores are gonna love you!

Keep us informed as you dress her up - what you choose, and why. Even a pic or two helps keep our blood flowing. Oh, baby.

Nice boat! I agree with all of the above, Thru-hull fittings on aluminum boats are best (and cheapest) if they are alum pipe stubs welded in during construction so think about washdown pump fitting, fish box pump outlets, maybe even an inlet for a bait tank pump since it sounds like you guys are going to push for live bait on the OR coast. The FF transducer should be recessed into a pocket fabricated into the keel per what Marc said to get the face of the transducer flush with the bottom of the boat. I'm having to haulout my Maxcat to do that, wish I could of got that done at the plant. Also think about location of downriggers and whether or not you'll need mount pads fabricated. You gonna get heat in the cabin? The diesel stovetops are great for that and warming up food, will require a separate diesel tank, usually 2-3 gallons with a deck fill unless you do an under-counter tank. On fuel management I think Yamaha has a system that is optional but definitely get something. Have fun!

Thanks for all the good ideas. This is exactly the kind of input that I was hoping for. Your wealth of knowledge and experience and willingness to share it with a pup is greatly appreciated. I've had offshore boats before but nothing comparable to the one just ordered, and would really like to get it close to right. Thanks again for all help and I am all ears to concerns and suggestions.

That sounds like a great boat.

What those other guys forgot to mention was in order to run a "Proper" fishin boat you will need a Salty Dog flag!!!!
