Default What did you do to kill the time?

Well I had the day off again due to the weather :depressed: , it just kills me. No, really though I can't stand being home and having nothing to due. I was gonna brave the storm and fish before the water blows out but the sound of freezing rain was just enough to leave the truck in the driveway. 4 wheel drive or not ice is not fun!! So I spent the day cleaning all my gear and tying up rigs and the such, oh and I can't forget the required 30 visits to ifish. So what did all the rest of you do with this wintery day?

Went fishing  at McIver area. Water temp was a wopping 35 degrees and did'nt catch a thing  . Story of my life lately. Roads were just a little slick but made it without a single problem. Almost got hit with about a 30 ft branch on the hike out, missed me by about 10 ft. Got the pucker factor going.

I painted plugs and birdies with my air brush.

a while back I happened on some glow in the dark birdies in the sive that I use so I made up some beautiful pearl and pink birdies, made some close replica's of the old nail polish pink okies and I been messing around with different pearlecents I painted a standard cop car then sprayed clear over it with different types of perl in the clear coat 1 with standard pearl, a silverish hue for those that dont know, 1 with a crimson hue to the pearl and 1 with a gold hue to the pearl.

they all pretty much look like the old mother of pearl cop cars but with an altered hue to the pearl

I dont know if they will catch fish but they sure look perty

Dang.....Today is my birthday and I ALWAYS fish on it. Not today , surfed Ifish a zillion times and all the cool billfish type sites just dreaming about their weather. Couldn't even get a barley pop at any of the local watering holes as they were all closed(great idea really ). Had to settle for tying riggins and sippin' some Crown'y. It's cool though  .

I went to work and decided to bag it at noon when nobody else came in

After pushing the kids on an innertube for an hour down the hill I decided to try and make some lures. Hope they swim better than a quickfish never made anything like it before.

Since I took the picture I managed to thaw out the paint enough to get a coat of primer on them.

I spent 1 1/2 hours becoming well acquainted with our multibillion dollar transit system so that I could be sure to make it to my client's 8:30 hearing this morning (fortunately everybody was late). What a great investment of tax dollars. I dared not brave that fiaso again so I called my buddy and he picked me up and drove me home in 20 minutes (normal commute time). He got lunch and beers out of it so he was happy.

Slept in, worked 1/2 the day, went shopping with the wife (well she did go out and buy me a new NR last fall) braved the snow and ice to go out and take care of the horses, ate, and will finish off the evening with a little ifish action.

Ran off two batches of jerky - one elk and one venison, then reloaded 200 rounds of 22-250 (rat season) all while checking Ifish 4,500 times. Watched a rooster pheasant cross the yard, and I swear he slipped and almost fell down. Caught himself with one wing. Oh, yeah, speaking of wings, I watched Brad Cochran and Dave Smith's Willamette Valley goose hunting video "Stripping Down" for the eleventh time.

It's so slick at my place I could hardly pull the garbage container up the driveway to the street, and my drive hardly slopes at all.

My wife is overjoyed to have me stuck in the house.

Dipnet,

you have the alvin rigged wrong. Put the original hook back on and just run the hook through the mouth. My son caught a sturgeon a couple of years ago like that while fishing for springers. no joke, but it was a herring for bait.

Loaded the family in the truck and went to Costco.
It was great. I don't think there were even a hundred people in the store and that included the employees.

Never had such an easy time shopping.

Then went to Washington Square. Same thing there. Had almost the whole mall to ourselves.

That's gross 5 cents! Thanks for not posting a picture.

My fingers are sore from making up pre tied drift leaders. I wish I had a digital camera, I would love to show a picture of what my wife calls "a mess" in the corner of the living room in front of the TV.

I think that all of the corkie, worm and yarn colors makes for a fun sight.

Well on to day 7, thats right 7, if you count the days before the new year. I think I have about ran out of things to do, other than ifishing. I hope I get to work tomorrow, this is gonna be one sorry paycheck. I never thought I would say I hope to work, all this down time is messing with my brain. I guess I can kiss that new TJ goodbye, it was only a dream anyways, not like I could even back it down the ramp today. I wonder if I took a heating pad and net to the river I could lure in some of those frozen steelies, I bet they are just as cold as us. You see, now I am coming up with hairbrain Ideas that wouldn't work in a million years. Somebody pleeease help me, any liscenced psychiatrist in here?!?

Painted a dozen 1/8 ounce jig heads w/ownerhooks, orange
Two dozen heads white
Two dozen heads black
Two dozen heads pink

I've explained to my wife and older son that tonight dad will be in the kitchen (sipping single malt scotch) tying jigs and that they need to keep 17 month old Tommy out of the kitchen.

I've been waiting weeks to find the time to try out some ideas. Tonight is the night. I'm looking forward to the therapy!!!

Watched lots of videos with the kids. Re-spooled one reel, but it's still relatively early in winter steelhead season (i've only been able to make 3-4 trips so far), so my tackle is still pretty well topped off from when I got everything ready back around November.

Just finished shoveling the driveway. I just did it once yesterday. There was about 2" of snow covered with about 1" of ice. Not too bad except the darn driveway is a steep slope. I need to keep it shoveled or the neighborhood kids use it for sledding. When they do that I have to wait for the spring thaw to have a clear driveway. Well I got my excise. Fishing is alot more fun. At least when the thaw and floods are done everyone should be all ready to go fishing. Cabin fever is a horrible disease. Cheers....

Tied up my 15 flies for the next Fly Swap on the flyfishers board.

Then went out to move the car from under tree limbs which could break if the ice storm materializes. Then put on the chains to finish moving the car when it decided to just spin its wheels while crosswise in the street.

Day #8 in a row, I am about to go saltwater fishing. Any of you salty dogs got some tips of how to catch clown fish? I was thinking that if I used ultra light tackle he would put a quite a tussle, hes a big 3". I am gonna brave the ice today and try to make it to delta park, they have my fishermans and Joes down there so it will at least kill a little time. I took the girlfreind home last night around 10ish and it was a skating rink out there, litterally, I witness about 10 kids with thier skates and hockey sticks having a pick up game in the middle of willamette blvd!! It wasn't so bad to drive in, the ole dodge handles the ice and snow great, don't even need those traction control devices I have heard so much about. I wonder if the sandy is iced over enough to do a little ice fishing, naw, I'm not quite that desperate.

played with my 6 month old boy, got my fishing room all organized, christ I have too much fishing gear. Anyone want to buy something? Drank some good wine, had neighbors over for dinner. OH, and scraped snow and ice off the boat cover about 15 times! :depressed:
Back to work now, tons to catch up on!
