Go to Allrecipies.com. They have a quick and easy one that was good. I found the key point is to mash up some of the beans to make the soup thickener...and add herbs and spices..bay leaf, garlic, onion, celery, and maybe some chopped up carrot. I have a bunch that I put into plasticware and froze.

I like to make split pea soup with my leftover ham bones. I generally follow the recipe on the package of fiesta brand peas, but spice it up a bit. The key to making it extra rich and tasty is to boil the bone with the peas, then shred off the remaining meat when done. If I remember correctly, it says to run the peas through a sieve after cooking the carrots and celery in with the peas. I make sure I blend up the peas with only the onions and add the ham, carrots, celery and potatoes afterwards.

I like to spice it up with a little garlic and a generous amount of ground white pepper, too.
