killer smokers are back
Okay, let's try this:
These are some awesome propane smokers for 149.99. Solid welded steel. Made in Texas.
Email Sunny for information. (Skein, put the keyboard down and step away from the computer...)

Re: killer smokers are back
Sunny, Kamloops,
Can you guys handle this via email? This falls in the realm of non-sponsor advertising and to be fair to our advertisers (and others) we need to do some editing here.
Thanks, guys.

Re: killer smokers are back
Skein-
I disagree and frankly this is exactly the kind of information I want an actual review of a product I might want.
I know there are smokers everywhere and run a search on Luhr Jensen or Little Chief and you will see this has been talked about for years.
Since we don't have a sponsor for Smokers... I would like to see this thread stay.
The sponsor use policy is detracting from the value of ifish... What if someone said "hey guys Fred Meyer's has a clearance on tackle"... not everyone would run to Fred Meyer's as most of us know they don't have much you would actually use...
I see threads on Englunds all the time... in fact I am almost positive that you will be a part of the order they are looking to do. This policy needs to be relaxed a tad when it doesn't compete directly with something a current sponsor sells. Or when it is just an ifish'er telling eveyone about something they liked.
I see posts all the time about products that don't work and those posts aren't killed...
Just my $.02 on the subject...

Re: killer smokers are back
Got to agree with RNL here. Relax just a little. What if I walked into costco and saw those babies on sale there. You bet I'd let i-fishers know about it. Same thing true if I saw a good deal on gear at fishermans or joes. Heck, I've seen DAWHUNT do it all the time when he worked at Joes in Vancouver. No harm, no fowl. Sorry. :depressed:
Folks, there is a good deal on Propane smokers at Costco. Very desirable and you should know they are there as a servie from your pals at i-fish.

Re: killer smokers are back
Rip'n Lips,
I hear you, but have to stand firm on this one. No ill intent was meant by Sunny or me, but this was an ad, plain and simple, and violated the AUP.
Email him. He'll get you the info.

Re: killer smokers are back
Skein-
You and I will have to agree to disagree on this one... I don't find anything in the AUP that clearly spells this out.
I would however vote to see this loosened a little bit as I understood the rules to be that you could mention a product/service in passing as long as we didn't currently have a sponsor on the board with a competing product.
I don't want to draw light to other posts that are currently in violation, but I think this issue needs to be spelled out on the main forum...

Re: killer smokers are back
Good points, RNL, and in retrospect I think I was a little heavy-handed on this one. But since it included the store, the price, a picture, where it was manufactured, and the construction type, it sure looked like an ad. Exactly like an ad.
Poor Sunny. He's probably scratching his head wondering what he did to start this.
I'll try to get some of the info back and word it in such a way that it doesn't tread on anybody's toes. This is a great forum and we don't want to squeeze any life out of it. But I'll want some of your first batch of smoked salmon. You can email it to me.

A geez, I like a happy ending. A little diplomacy in action here, you both handled this very well.
How come your not fishing? I would think those halibut on the rockpile are worth chasing.

Re: killer smokers are back
I hear e-mailed smoked salmon has a slightly burnt electrical taste. And if printed on a laser jet it will be a little fiberous and leave a strange coloration on your tongue. Better have BROWN send it. Oh...opps...Brown is not an i-fish sponsor either. Sorry.

You have to turn your scanner to high resolution to get any quality in the fish you send electronically...

Re: killer smokers are back
Sorry to cause such a bird's nest. Just wanted everyone to get in on this since they ran out in the middle of TUNA! season. I'll be happy to give out specific warehouse quantities if you call me on Saturday from 9-6pm while I'm at work. i can find our quanitites on hand for each warehouse in real time. I've had one since July and am very happy with it. Sorry, Skein.

Re: killer smokers are back
You know, I am not real happy with my Luhr Jensen smoker. I have not even had it a year and I have had to replace the cord 3 times. It keeps melting where it connects with the element. I have replaced the element too, thinking that might be faulty. Yet, on the last batch, the cord melted again! Forcing me to be very watchful of it when I do plug it in.
I am ready to get something different and appreciate the opinion of other ifishers.

WOW, I almost fell off my forklift the other day when I saw this baby. I know Tigard has some but not sure for how long.

I saw that smoker and think it looked like a great smoker. Iv got two little chiefs and a brinkman. That one just might end up in my shed as well.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">Try plugging it into another outlet. If you are using an extension cord use a shorter one or move the unit close to an outlet. Let us know if this works...

Re: killer smokers are back
I go directly into an outlet with no extension cord and the plug on my Big Chief melted as well. Pucker factor big time. I wonder if Luhr Jensen is aware of this issue?

Re: killer smokers are back
I have 2 little chiefs and 1 big chief. Never had a cord melt but did burn out a chip pan from long usage. I never use an extension cord but do elevate the smokers off the cement floor by a couple inches because I thought that would keep the cooking temp cooler as I think the bottom gets a little too hot otherwise. I use 2 2x2 's long enough for the smoker to rest on, it never gets hot enough to burn the wood. To be safe, bricks at the corners would work.
I have seen electrical cords melt when the wiring on the outlet is loose, increased resistance....increased current. Check those outlets.

Re: killer smokers are back
Hey, Tom: I found out that the Issaquah Costco also has these in stock if you don't want to run to Warrenton. They only got 4, so I'd bet they are gone by now.

Re: killer smokers are back
I have a Big Chief and the cord is melting on it too, right at the element connection. Sounds like it is a common problem. I'm concerned it will melt next time (like tommorow, I have fish brining right now!) and then be unusable and then what? A new cord from Luhr Jensen?
