Re: wife won trip to Los Cabos hows fishing
Went there 2 years ago for honeymoon. They weren't really catching the marlin at that time.We met a guy at the Giggling Marlin that asked if we wanted to go on a fishing trip. (What kind of a question is that?)My wife and I didn't want to spend all day looking for that marlin,so he said he could sit us up with his brother who owened a charter business.I can't think of the charters name right now.I think for the both of us it was $50.00 down and a $100.00 more when we got on the boat. Then you buy the live bait. We had a great day of fishing. We caught Spanish Makral and a varity of other fish which were all hard fighters. At the end of the day we gave all but one fish to the skipper and his deck hand which was his 10 year old son. The one fish we took back to the Giggling Marlin and they cooked it up for us for little of nothing.Good luck and have fun

Re: wife won trip to Los Cabos hows fishing
What time of year are you going? I can put you on a charter that I have never failed bill fish on (stripes/blues/sails) or dorado if you go soon. Gotta be between now and feb other wise all you'll catch is TUNA!
Cabo ain't cheap lemmee tell ya, $500 (US) a day for a boat plus bait and tip if you want your own boat (which I highly recommend - esp. if the wife is along, it's really romantic and good fishing). There's hack boats (don't ask me how I know) and good boats, about the same price.

Re: wife won trip to Los Cabos hows fishing
Been there twice. Once in May, and another time in Nov. Fishing was better the Nov trip. Here' s a link that has lots of useful info to help you plan. Some of the fishing charters have websites with fishing reports to give you an idea of what's going on.
http://www.loscabosguide.com/index.html
You can also do a search for other Cabo info. Lots will depend upon where you are staying as many of the charters leave from the harbor area, and when you go for weather temps. Would be happy to answer any specific questions. Drop me an email.
Enjoyed the second trip better than first as I knew what to expect and how to react to the constant 'in your face' sales efforts by the locals. Have a great trip.

Re: wife won trip to Los Cabos hows fishing
The trip is the middle of November. Any recomendation on charters to use would be appreciated. More interested in Tuna than Marlin I have only watched Marlin fishing on TV and don't know why but catching Marlin never really fired me up but catching Tuna is a different story.
Thanks Randy

Re: wife won trip to Los Cabos hows fishing
Hogback try Cabo Magic, Solmar fishing fleet or the Picantee fishing team these boats all know how and where to catch fish. Fished with all of these boats. Picante dose real good in the Bissbees Black Blue tournament every year and the owners of Cabo Magic are real nice people out of Las Vegas, but the Solmar guys do real good but the english is limited. If you fish with Solmar try to get Captains Ramon or Pepe as they have been with Solmar for years and typically run the bigger boats. Do rent the boat for yourself it will cost you at least $500 to $700 a day and try to fish a couple of days so you can target Yellow tail and then focus on Marlin for a day or 2. Team Yeeha likes to fish there around Christmas until Feb but right now should be real if the storms are clear.

Re: wife won trip to Los Cabos hows fishing
Hogback- you are making a mistake- target the Bills in Nov. Sails, Stripes very abundunt, Blues are there but rare. You will get hooked up on 2-3 a day. Take a day and go up the Pacific coast to live bait Dorado- you'll never be the same.
Yellow fin may or may not be around and catchable. They are a tug of war as opposed to fishting the airobatic rockets. If you get bored with all the jet fighters and rockets, then go after a freight train (the Tuna).
I'll get you a name as soon as my bro gets back (this week). These guys really know the fish and area, they do well in the Turneys every year. Picante is good to but they a) may be booked and b) are the most expensive down there.

Re: wife won trip to Los Cabos hows fishing
Hogback, my wife and I fished with the Solmar fleet a few years back in August and were very happy with the boats and skippers. We caught marlin, tuna, wahoo and durado. One thing to keep in mind--they like to keep and kill everything. Most of the fish go to the locals, but if you are interested in catch and release you should make that known before you head out. Have fun and stay away from the worm!

Re: wife won trip to Los Cabos hows fishing
Fished it a few years ago end of September. we caught the tail end of a hurricane and it was rought the first couple of days. We still got at least one marlin a day. Mostly stripes, one blue and about a ton of Dorado (yum!).
We fished a 42' Pacifica, $1000 a day plus bait and tips but it was worth it. They would fish all day if we wanted, let us handle our own fish (c&r) asnd had first class Penn International gear.
I found out day before yesterday that my friends are headed back down Oct 24-29. Notice is too short for me to get off work (D'OH!) but I will have a fresh report in a few weeks.

Hogback- bad news dude! :depressed: I just talked to your wife and she can't go to Cabo. She said you'll have to take me instead. I snore but if you drink enough Cervasas you won't feel a thing!
When are we leaving? I'll arrange the Charter Boat, just send me your Visa number!

Re: wife won trip to Los Cabos hows fishing
Hogback,
We have fished Cabo at least two times a year since '93 (November and January). We have fished with the same Pangero, Julio Figeroa, since the beginning. He has a Super Panga "in the corner" behind the Plaza Las Glorias. Typically $150.00/day plus $20.00 in bait, plus tip. In November fish are close: As said before, lots of big Dorado just around the point on the Pacific side, Stripes and an occasional Blue at the lighthouse, big Roosters and the occasional Yellowtail inshore. If you have a car, drive to Palmilla on the way to San Jose (you will pass it on the way from the airport-ask your driver) and look for Pepe's restaurant on the knoll North of the resort. He has a Panga fleet that launches off the beach. Different than Cabo, they fish 3-4" Sardinas rather than 12" mackerel. Wahoo are there in the mornings and you'll fish Tuna at Gordo Banks later. Nothing like seeing pelagics boil on the corners of a 26ft skiff on live bait. We will be there for 10 days just after the WON Tuna Tournament the second week of November. If you're interested in any other info drop me an e-mail. By the way, take your wife to dinner at Villa Serena. It's an open palapa on a knoll over looking the ocean about 3 miles North of Cabo in the start of the corridor. Great food, inexpensive, and beautiful location. At sunset the view will take your breath away. You'll have a great time in Cabo. Hope this helps.
Jean

Not interested in catching a Marlin? See a Blue light up for the first time and your mind will change quickly. It is a surreal sight!
Have fun!

Re: wife won trip to Los Cabos hows fishing
Sorry for the late reply just got back from fishing Tillamook. Thanks for all the information, I decided to stay and fish closer to home. I gave my spot to my daughter in law. I sorta have a fobia about Mexico everytime I go they want to keep me! Must me something about a 6foot 3inch blue eyed Texacan looking gringo that fires them up.
Thanks again Randy

Re: wife won trip to Los Cabos hows fishing
Randy,
Just got back from there on Saturday.... Fishing was pretty good. We caught Yellowfin Tuna, Marlin (stripers), and Dorado. The tuna fishing was pretty hot our first day out, we could have filled the boat with them. Our marlin day saw three fish to the boat, with two being on a double. The dorado haven't schooled up yet, so they were spotty, but we did land a 50 pound bull.
We (I was with Miss B Havens brother), fished with Pochos charter. Great boats, and english speaking pro guides. If you want more info, email me.

Re: wife won trip to Los Cabos hows fishing
PeterMac- I was wondering if you guys were ever coming home.
How was the weather? Kinda close to that Hurricane when you left wasn't it? Thye told me on the first trip we made down there that a hurricane will "blow out" the summer heat and humidity and make the weather real pleasant afterwards. Kinda like a big fan I guess huh?
Sounds like you got some fish. Did you go out with **** or Eddie?

Re: wife won trip to Los Cabos hows fishing
Hey PedroMac (I like it ), I ran home for lunch and the weather showed 2 storms down there. One just outside Cabo and one a little down the coast off PV (Hurricane now downgraded to a Tropical Storm). If they converge on Cabo it could get real interesting.

Re: wife won trip to Los Cabos hows fishing
Mel, I don't know about the fan effect - HOT and HUMID!! But what the heck, it's Mexico and you expect it to be warm. We were down there for 10 days which was just about right.....
We fished two days with Eddie on Reel Busy, wow, he is awesome. They gave us two deck hands our second day, which is why we were able to have a double hook up on the marlin. The third day we fished on Skirt Chaser, and I can't remember the cap's name, he was good, but they didn't work as hard as Eddie and team.
What a great trip, we had a blast with your bro, and nice digs too!! I'll email you some pics.
