 Nice meeting you both, even though Luke's "Ruby Slippers" were made out of rubber and his dress was made by Healy Hansen
PS:
Luke did a top knotch job on carking his first tuna. Watch out Puffin, we have some competition comming up in a few years

Re: Edsr and Lucky Luke
Yep. Couple of nice guys. Luke is so tall I still think he had heals on. Either that or I have contracted BOE syndrom. Good show on Mels boat Saturday. All I can say is we really stunk it up.
also nice to meet Hoggemin too. Nice guy and even has some tuna gear. To bad clamming sucked though aye Mike.

Re: Edsr and Lucky Luke
Yep- nice to meet Lucky Luke and fish with edsr for the first time. Good crew Saturday all the way around. Man- what a weather change from sweating in the sun all day to coming into that wind and fog in the harbor. I was freezing my buns off all evening.
OceanBlue- you can thank edsr for carking your fish for the pickled Tuna recipe. I was too cold to even think about it.
Hmmm.... lets see, last time I went fishing on Toms boat, Bernie was there (with his banana). We only got 12 bottom fish and then something stunk up the bite big time. After that, 1 lonely Tuna... still a stinky bite.
This time I went on my boat and Bernie went with Tom. Only 3 Tuna on Minaki??????
Do I se a trend here??
PS - Miss B thought it was tough fishing but managed to put 14 on board, saw some whales I've never seen (Minke's??) and got SPOOLED by an underwater rocket propelled something.
PSS- I screwed up. I thought the rod that was getting spooled had minimal 80lb dacron backing with 300 yards of 65 tuff on top so I clamped it down with a glove and parted the knot somewhere down into the backing. Turns out that reel had 50 lb tuff all the way down to the arbor under the 65. I put the 65 on top cause the reel was getting a little low on line. I probably had 400-500 yards minimum of line left and coulda/shoulda handed off and tried chasing that fish with the boat. We'll never know what it was now. :depressed:
Oh well....

Re: Edsr and Lucky Luke
That's it, I'm done with TUNA. Mels calling me stinky so I'm taking my ball and going home. Sheeezzzz.....Never gonna hear the end of this am I? I think there was illegal activities going on with Miss B. Haven. Seems someone put shark blood in the bilge of Minaki. Any ideas Mel? Some people just can't play fair.

Mel - Thanks for the tuners. I'll get that ambrosia made up tonight and deliver some back to you Wed. Big thanks to edsr for carking it out!
Mel, at least you just got spooled and didn't lose the rod/reel to boot!

Re: Edsr and Lucky Luke
Thanx to Mel for helping me loose my innocense. It was an incredible day with amazing changes in the conditions. It started off by almost being to rough to be out, to wonderfully calm. I'm hooked. TUNA! fishing is by far the most exciting fishing I've ever done. And so delicious! Donna and I cooked some up last night and it was delicious!! Donna asked me to thank you all. Mel, it was a pleasure to meet you and thank you very much for having given me the opportunity to expierence sportfishing at its best. It takes a lot of patience and generousity to be deflowering so many rookies. I too am sorry that you didn't have the opportunity to see what kind of rocket you had hooked into.
Bernie, dude, you should always be on the boat that has a person with the nickname "Lucky". Just a hint.
Keta, it was a pleasure to meet you and I plan on seeking you out in the future for more tutelage on properly carking TUNA! Your fillets are a thing of beauty. Hope I can rise to the challenge.
Pete, thanx for running the fish catching show in junction with our fine captain. Your suggestions during the melee's made us a fish catching team. Way to go on taking the time to master Keta's new gutting technique. It was a great thing to learn how to do. I always do well when I fish with you.
Ed, thanx for taking the iniciative whenever we had tangled lines. More times than not you undid the messes that I created. I look forward to seeing the sea dory that you built. It sounds as if you've participated in a lot of fish carnage with it and will in the future. I think it would be very satisfying to be on the ocean in a boat that you built with your own hands.
Just for clarification, I think its only fair that we give credit to a crew member that has not yet been mentioned. Dylan, who is only 16, was our ace in the hole. I can still perfectly recall him looking at Ed and I and saying "their hitting bright colors". We made a few changes to our color choices from his bag of goodies and we started having doubles. Funny thing is, he was chumming for the first time in his life. Surprising, in that he works as a deckhand on one of tackletime's boats.
It was a wonderful day filled with comraderie and friendship. Thank you to all of you for making it happen and allowing me to partake, even though I didn't show with the prerequisite red dress and ruby slippers. Luke out.
TUNA! TUNA! TUNA! TUNA! TUNA! TUNA! TUNA! TUNA!

Shark Blood HEH? Boy, I Don't know what I had in my bilge.
I told Gary it was his fault cause he was at the wheel. He said fine, he would not loose any sleep over it. In theory we could blame Com Nav
Inc. also, they did most of the driving thus relieving Gary of blame.
There's lots of fish out there, just could not get them to bite. There are a few small fish showing up, Mel did clean our clock.
There's always another day, how about this Saturday?

Tom- my last Tuna trip for the year is now 3 trips past!
No way I can go this weekend, no kitchen pass. Toni's at a horse show and I gotta stay home and babysit the Farm. :depressed: Besides- I haven't finished my addition on the dog house! Winters coming and I can't sleep outside on the porch anymore!
PS- In case you missed it on the other post 14:3 = 4.66666666666667 to 1 ! Muahahahahah! No shark blood either, didn't need it when I had Bernie on your boat!

Re: Edsr and Lucky Luke
afraid I'm done for now Tom. Got "Skirt wear'in poodle walk'in" duty. Quality time with the kiddies while the wife begins her stint at leisure time. She's big into scrapbooking and photography. Big weekend for her coming up this weekend with the girls. Her turn to play, my turn to pay. But I'm okay with that big time. Any wife that can put up with a fish-a-holic is worth their weight in gold.

Re: Edsr and Lucky Luke
Lucky Luke, you are indeed lucky. So glad you made it to the happy fishing grounds. Now you have nothing but sorrow for 8 months till we get another whack at them tuners next summer.
We can help you, Son. I tried to 'splain this to you but you went over to the dark side anyway. I like you Luke and I want to help. Attend the TA meetings when you can, stock up on the green lable (Hornitos) cactus juice and keep the missus out of the bumblebee aisle at the store. Read the twelve steps out loud with me now as we commend your innocence to a proper burial in the deep blue sea ....

12 Steps To Recovery
1. Put the poles down and slowly back away.
2. Stop hiding lures in various places in the house.
3. Never mistakenly call your spouse "Tuna" during love making.
4. As hard as it is to believe, not everyone enjoys tuna fishing.
5. Selling your car in order to buy more gas to go tuna fishing is not recommended.
6. There are other fish in the sea.
7. Leaving work daily to get home and accept packages from UPS/FedX is wrong.
8. No more telling your spouse the truck broke down while you were out fishing so you'll have to stay another day, or in extreme cases a week.
9. If extreme withdrawls have set in, for instance random "hook setting" while at work or home, or making the zzzzzzzzzzzz sound constantly, do not let the tuna-holic near any fishing articles like magazines, fishing gear, or boats as that will make matters worse.
10. Tuna fishing is not a replacement for eating.
11. Unlike AA, recovery should be made away from other tuna-holics. Gathering tuna-holics together will only create more problems.
12. It is not acceptable to miss your child's birth because you were out tuna fishing.(my wife told me that one)
Meeting adjourned.

Luke, thank Doryrod for the 12 steps. I still remember the first time he posted it. I almost died laughing. My boss came to see what I was laughing about. I explained it to him from under my desk.
And likewise about the meeting. You will be a little taller and more handsome than ever.

Kamloops - Hey Tom you're a good sport and you can be my wing man anytime!
How about that whopper tuna that Mel tried to present to you?
Gold is where you find it and the same thing for fishing. We just happened to find fish on Saturday. It was a slow start for us and when you caught the first fish we assumed you were having similar luck. We did a lot of lure changing and experimenting, even then it really was scratch fishing for the most part.

Tom knows I'm just funnin' him, so do you Bernie, you can ride on Miss B any time we get a chance to get together. Since neither skipper and none of the what..... 11 or so crew on the 2 boats really knows what the deal was then I'm sure it'll happen to me next time. :depressed:
If we could figure it all out all the time it wouldn't be nearly as good a sport.
Reminds me of the time I showed my bro how to steelhead fish (right after I finally figured out how to catch em) and stood right beside him after I rigged him up and watched him hook 4 fish to my zero. My gear, my hole, my bait, his fish!

Don't mess with those Turtles, that was Toni's idea and you'll have to answer to her. She likes her Tortuga del Mar's (hmmm - Spanish is a little rusty- better go to Cabo  ).

Re: Edsr and Lucky Luke
Ah Mel it's all in good fun. Just one of those days and I think we all took it to be just that. I'd ride in your boat any day Mel. Heck, I'll even leave the bananas at home if you'd like. although I did hang that banana from the bow of your boat and it had no affect at all.
Just one thing though. Get a real temp sensor for next year.  "Hey down there, what's the water temp now".
Now the depressing thought. I've got a lot of tuna gear to purchase for next year. By the time I'm done my wallet whould be as thin as a wheat thin.

Re: Edsr and Lucky Luke
Thanks Tom for the great trip, rember its not how many you catch but the quality of the trip, which was great. Being able to leave port at 3:00 am and not being able to see a thing crossing the bar was spectacular. By the way Mel when we were crossing the bar we could see your white mast light then it would disappear, how high is that light off the water?
It was good to meet my new ifish friends Catch and Eat, Kamloops, Lucky Luke, edsr, pete, Gary, Jim, Dylan. and great fishing with my old friends Keta, and Mel. Hope I didn't forget any one.

Re: Edsr and Lucky Luke
Bernie -Oh yes- and don't forget some of those Tiger Clones that Dillon brought. I'll take 6 to go please! Tuna gear doesn't really feel all that bad after you have a few big BOAT bills. Not that you would know that.
Oh- and whatever was on that long rod that got spooled, get several of those. Don't know what it was though. :depressed: I thought it was a Blue Mackeral Cedar plug, but when I cleaned up the gear all 3 Cedars I had out were there. Deck Crew was doing the gear change up routine down there so I don't know what that rocket hit.
Hoggemin- saw your post after I posted. My all round is 16'-6" off the water. I know cause the dock in Scappoose is 16-7. I can make it without putting the light down but if I was lite on fuel and have a wave pick tha boat up it could get noisy. I don't think it was the height of the waves (they couldn't have been over 15 feet right?), but ya when Miss B rides up one the light would disappear behind the Radar and the top. Never though about that before.

Re: Edsr and Lucky Luke
Thanks Mel!
What a great day on the Miss "B". Captain Mel at the helm and Pete navigating through the fog and dark of 03:00. The bar was rolling with fresh six footers in from China but we crossed without incident, Menaki leading the way.
The day's fishing started slowly with a bunch of "drive-bys" and then fish-on! Hand lines and stand up gear got bit. Mel hooked Moby Dick or Red October and was getting spooled when he broke it off. Not sure what that was but it was taking line faster than any fish I have ever seen.
The fresh bait experiment was a success. Luke worked a hooked tuna into the boat and we threw a sardine baited line to entice lurkers and it worked. We actually hooked several but they came unglued. LIve bait would really be a blast.
Pete gave us a lesson on the quick kill and bleed technique which worked most of the time except when I missed the mark and a lively tuna helped to paint the stern well red. Quick, the wash down hose!
With fish in the hold we headed back into a fog that started several miles off shore and got thicker the closer we got to the bar. It was commuter traffic time coming in, lots of commercial boats heading home across the bar at slack time. Mel had his radar going and we could "see" things we didn't know were there. Don't try this at home folks, this is advanced piloting and takes both skill and equipment to be safe. Mel and first officer Pete were up to the task!
All in all it was a great trip, except, somehow I missed seeing anyone in a red dress, must have dozed off. Pictures coming.

Looks good Pete, I'll be right over!
I finished off the Albi Sashimi and had some of your Smoked Salmon for dinner Sat night. Hit the sack finally about 9:30, didn't get up till 10am Sunday. 2:30 am till 9:30 pm with 15 1/2 hrs on that rough water then the 2 hr run in fog just tuckered me right out.
Man- I just couldn't get warm Sat eve. either. After sweating all day out there then hitting that chilly wind with the fog drops right on the deck I felt like I was in Frisco. Even the hot shower didn't seem to last long. Finally cranked on the boat heaters and got warmed up before bed.
See ya

Re: Edsr and Lucky Luke
Yep, we are having tuna marrinated in Italian dressing and tossed on the BBQ tonight. Can't wait. BTW got to gross out my 15 year old daughter last night. While slicing that tuna into steaks in front of her I popped a chunk of TUNA in my mouth. Her reaction was priceless. Boy did I catch her off guard. I offer her a piece but she declined. Guess I ruined her one time when I told her that those are calamari onion rings. She and her brother absolutly were chowing down until she picked up the last one and said I could not have it. I was then forced to reveal the truth. "honey, those ain't be'in onion rings. Those be squid" I laughed so hard as both kids gagged and spit and quickly down their sodas. Oh well, more for me.
Just saw it Pete. lol Next time make sure you post the total package. he he he. Give ya $20 for the set.

Re: Edsr and Lucky Luke
Hi edsr, it was good to have you on board to help out. All in all the crew was the most experianced I think I ever had (even considering it was Lukes first). No babysitting the cockpit for me Saturday (well 'cept to figure out why that new spread I was trying wouldn't run without tangling ). Yeah- and Dillon was great and even provided the breakfast chum . I didn't notice he was changing out lures (after I did the first round change out), till we caught fish on his clones. Sneeky wasn't he!
Pretty sure it was the last hurrah for me this year (I think I've heard that before). Sure was nice to beat my running mate 4.666666666667 to 1 on the last date! (sorry Tom- I just can't help it- Heheheheheh).

Re: Edsr and Lucky Luke
Tom, don't let Mel bother you. He's just on a lucky streak and has convinced himself to quit while he is ahead. I have a feeling the tides will turn a little next year. I feel a grudge match for next summer coming on.
What Mel is not confessing is that he was dipping those clones in Budwiser and the cedar plugs in wasabi. Those tuna did'nt have a chance. Maybe next year you can try Itaian dressing scent.
