Default Marty/Mark MC Tuna Report

Talked to Marty and mark about an hour ago or so.

Sounds like Marty might have been the high liner again. But with only one fish. :depressed:

I didn't visit long because I am under the gun for getting moved out of here and am past my Friday deadline.

Apparently thay were out around 45 miles (heard that from a local) and only picked up the one fish. I'm sure they will give you some details. Don't know how the ocean was offshore but it looked like a lake when I drove by a little while ago.

Met Mark MC for the first time and he seemed like a really nice low keyed guy like his buddy Marty. Wished I would have had more time to visit with him and chat. Maybe next time.

Got to burn.

Thanks for the report Dan. That's what I'd heard as well. I didn't get out today...have a bad cold, and bunged my knee up yesterday so am being gimpy for a while. :depressed:

Good luck in getting all moved.

Hi All. So Nancy, when an ER nurse boogers up her knee, who fixes her up? Hope it's better soon...

Yea Dan, nice to meet you in person finally. And the now-famous Mason-dog.

For the solitary tuna story: we went SW to about a mile above Nelson's Island, then turned west. Water came up from 55 to 57 deg in a very short distance. Kept going, till it was holding steady at 58 / 58.2 like that. Put the lines in & trolled for about an hour & got the one fish on a purple / black Fishtrap way back. At that point we were at about 124 57' X 44 42'. I think we saw 58.5 deg but no more, even as we went further west a bit. Not much of any feed signs out there. Past about 20 miles there was a little slop/chop that made for some hard landings. Very good trolling weather though. From about 10 miles out to shore it was almost greasy flat.

Fishing Dispatcher & friend went up towards the 125 / 45 area & beyond. Said they went 50 miles out & didn't see a thing.

That's all folks; hope it ain't over yet.

Mark - Actually that thought was going through my mind (and knee) yesterday when it happened. For a few minutes, I was seriously wondering if I'd broken something. Thankfully I believe it's just a severe bruise and/or strain.

Sorry to hear about the long run today. Sounds like ya had good ocean conditions for it though. Hopefully the tuna aren't done for this area this year, but I'm wondering...

Nice to talk to you today Mark. We did get 1 Tuna also but that was it for Tuna. We caught it in 57 degree water, and never seen anything higher than 58.3. Talked to Sea Ray a couple times before we caught the one and they were still headed west. We tried to call them on the radio but no reply.Came back in to 10 miles off shore and put the downriggers down to 125 feet and had a chinook in just a little while.Ended up with 3 chinooks and the 1 Tuna.

I think "or Better" were the key words Lee. I think Mel is half TUNA. At least his jaw was flapp'in like a tuna tail with bragging right Saturday.

Gregotis- already on another post but I got 14 Saturday 'tween OMG thirty (we left the dock at 3 to make the tide) and about 1:30.
It woulda been better I think but it was pretty dang rough out there. Swell was no prob but about 5 foot wind wave. Lost about 10 fish over the day, most early then they seemed to start sticking better.

See the "weather vortex" post for full nitty gritty on what the CR was like.

PS- fish were all big (25-30) except for one peanut looked about 5 lbs beside those others. Smallest Tuna I ever boated.

Dang,

I was hoping you guys were going to give me an excellent report off of Depoe/Newport. I guess I'll just have to work and skip the tuna idea. The Columbia is just too far away for me.
