Anybody have a Suzuki 9.9?
I am looking at purchasing one of these as a new kicker.
If you have one of these how do you like it? How is it holding up? What do you like or dislike about it? Would you buy one again? Does it troll well?
Any problems getting service?
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks

had a 9.9 on my last boat.
Likes:
Always started
Redundantcy of electric start AND had pullstart as backup.
Quiet
Dislike:
Occasionally tempormental at dead slow troll
Overall I liked it. But If it were my $$, and the prices were about the same, I'd look for a T8. You cant beat that big fat prop for boat control at troll speeds.

Re: Anybody have a Suzuki 9.9?
I have one as a kicker on my boat the motor is an 04' I have had no problems. I would suggest you get a prop of a pitch lower than stock. I think they prop all these motors to propel a duck boat. Just like your main motor the kicker if over pitched will not idle well, flush unburned fuel past rings flooding oil and ruin your motor early.

Re: Anybody have a Suzuki 9.9?
I have an 07', it has worked flawlessly. We are pleased. I was concerned when we got it that I would regret purchasing it, compared to the yamaha (all my buddies have yamaha's). No regrets/no issues. Cold starts are not an issue for the suzuki. It trolls our 21' seahawk slow enough for kokanee and it will push the boat upriver against the current (columbia) at approx 4 mph. One thing you should know is they apparently are not producing flush adapters for these kickers currently- the company that made them stopped-at least that what several dealers have told me. I use a plastic trash can after the salt, not as big of a deal as I originally thought (I pack my crab floats aroud in the trash can). I would have to walk out and check but I'm pretty sure ours says high thrust or something to that extent on it.

Suzuki redesigned the 9.9. The motor your asking about is different from the one people are posting about. I have an 08. Take a look at my previous posts for a review.

Re: Anybody have a Suzuki 9.9?
Mine is an 07 as well.
Been back to the dealer (Siglers) 2 times for repair.
First was a bad carb (according to mechanic, 1 in 50 are bad).
2nd was for impeller replacement.
Hope they get the kinks worked out in the new version.
Other then that, it runs great now.

Re: Anybody have a Suzuki 9.9?
I have a 1999 suzuki 9.9 I bought new in 99 and have never had any trouble with it. It has always idled good for me. I use it mainly for a very slow troll when needed on my 19' aluminum boat. My boat is very similar to a 19' alumaweld stryker and the 9.9 seems to give me the slow troll and move the boat when needed. I tested the motor at the dealers on my boat in the water before I bought it. I would match the HP of your kicker with size of boat you have. When I was up at Bamfield last year I heard a boat go by with a little motor screaming while fishing at Whittlstone point. I looked over and someone had a 8 HP kicker on a 26' Osprey. It seemed like he was trying to move the Queen Mary with that little motor. A guide at Haggard cove had the same 8 HP kicker on his 25' cabin cruiser when his big motor went out the kickers top speed was about the same as trolling. It took him a long time to get back to the resort.
