Re: Wigeon Tribute
I'm with ya man!! Just something about the Wigeon that I just can't seem to get enough of! I think it's their numerous color schemes blended together.

Love it. My favorite bird to hunt.
Love the Euro. Just a kiss of green around the eye.

Re: Wigeon Tribute
Cool I love the Wigeon too, here is one I shot last Dec that I just finished mounting for myself. I still need to finish grooming and gray wash his feet before he is done, but they sure make a pretty mount. Over the course of time Im gonna add one of every puddler Drake to this piece before Im done with it. Ive got several more puddler species already in the freezer waiting if I can find the time.
Thanks for sharing those are some great pics.

Re: Wigeon Tribute
Stunning pics Wingman. My first Widgeon was in Arkansas. They are not common there at all so I was thrilled to get him. The thing that was weird was the size of this one. He was almost the size of a mallard. He had a great big barrel breast and huge wingspan. I mounted him but over the years and moves, I lost him. I've never seen one here that big.
Shot my first Eurasian last year on the the last day of the season. I gave him to a taxidermist friend for a display he was putting together.

Re: Wigeon Tribute
Widgeon are cool birds. I remember one that my grandpa shot quite a few years ago at Summer Lake. It was a huge widgeon, his head was almost all blonde, just really bright with bright radiant green across the side of his head. And he was a big fat, fully plumed bird. Best one I have ever seen, if I ever get one like that, it will go on the wall. Seems to be a lot of variation in these birds for some reason?

Not true. I've seen your drawings of cape buffalo and black bear. Not bad. Still waiting to see kudu.

I will say that I tend to get lucky there or at least put myself into a posistion to see a few. However my goal over the next 2 months is to find & get at least one quality picture of a banded pintail drake. extra bonus if I can get all the numbers off it.. Good news is there is no limit on pintail with the camera so if I get into a bunch I might get lucky....

I found this hybrid (?) Euro the other day. He really stood out in a crowd of about 40+ birds. Wish I could have gotten a cleaner photo but that is a work in progress!

Re: Wigeon Tribute
Next time can you get a shot of the banded wigeon drake just to the left of the hybrid in the second picture ... It might just be wig poo but I'd like to confirm that
Great shots Jay... Really good example of a hybrid. I think we are seeing more and more each year which I guess is good and bad. I think we will end up seeing fewer and fewer true (or mostly) Euro's and more and more hybrid types like what you shot here. Not on the same level but I see it like the hybridization of the Black duck on the East coast.

Wishful or not Blow the original up to make sure. I want to know if there is another wigeon band around. So much for them "being rare"
