Need antelope advice - which units?
Finally, getting enough points where statistically we should be able to draw from the following units. All hunts are first season (can't go second) and no "red" (high % of private land). These would include: Maury, Ochoco, Grizzly, Beulah, Malheur and Owyhee (again, all 1st only). I've been somewhat advised against Malheur (bro hunts deer there and doesn't see many while there). I would like to hunt way down in SE Oregon but that would make scouting somewhat expensive. I've received some 3rd hand advice that Ochoco is a good unit.
Any recommendations? It will be a two party hunt.
Thanks,
Biederboat

It will average out to 11. I checked the 2008 draw statistics and, as long as I read them correctly, should be able to get those hunts but I would have to double check to be absolutely certain.

Thought about it, maybe Steens as it is about 70% w/ 11 pts if the odds hold next year, but antelope hunting is supposedly really good right now, to the point where if it goes bad (disease, predation, hard winters, whatever) those units might not be as good in the future as the other ones presently are. Besides, then it's just that much longer until the next hunt. Always a gamble...

I had that tag in 2007 and did get my antelope but it was a lot tougher than I thought it would be and what evryone says about antelope hunting. Very few antelope in the unit that year - per the bio I talked to for the area it was really dry in spring of 2007 so the crested wheat they plant for the antelope didn't take - so per her info many of the antelope moved into the Juniper unit, which may have been true. I scouted 3 weekends and did get one the 2nd day - small buck but had a great time. I am back at earning points and will go back to that unit.

Look just east of Adel (I forget the unit). You can sneak up on them sleeping.

Re: Need antelope advice - which units?
There's East & West Beattys Butte. East seems to be more popular. Besides there ain't no antelope in West Beattys anyway
