Razor Clams in Oregon??
Can anyone update me (us) on the current status of razor clams in Oregon?
When is the season?
Which beaches are open?
Which beaches are productive?
Are there any razors near Pacific City?
Thanks,
Dave

Re: Razor Clams in Oregon??
How about beaches further south... down towards Cape Kiwanda?
Anyone have any experience with razors down there?
Specifically the beach near Tierra Del Mar.. north of Cape Kiwanda and South of Sand Lake.

Re: Razor Clams in Oregon??
dlgobeavs,
Only the beaches north of Tillamook Head will be open on October 1st. Beaches south of Tillamook Head are still testing above the safe levels of Domoic Acid.
As far as clam population in that area, according to ODFW, over 90% of the harvest and population occurs in the 18 mile stretch of beach known as the Clatsop Beaches. Populations south of there are very sporadic.
The main community board has numerous threads about Oregon and Washington razor clams. Do a search there for some great info.

Re: Razor Clams in Oregon??
DBD,
I'll pass on the digging the few days. No need to be up that late to dig clams when I can wait to dig in the light.

Re: Razor Clams in Oregon??
Hay clamman what days do you think are best this next week, for digging those little goodies. And what times do you recommend? Iv got a car load kids and a big dog that love cruising the beach. Digging clams can be a great way to spend the day.I went to Alaska a few years ago and one of the things we did was dig clams. and dig,dig,dig,85lbs of clean clam meat  some of those things were so big youd be up to your shoulder and wondering who was going to win, CLAM or MAN. Six inches long or better and an inch thick. Black shells, and 45 per person a day. That was one vaca i lost weight on.My youngest daughter can spot a dimple quite aways almost suprising. Being a two finger typer ive gone long enough Let me know what you think about this coming week cus i dont have work email at pscreel@yahoo or her is good thanks Perry

Re: Razor Clams in Oregon??
Reel Creel,
It has been stated on the general board that you can get clams at tides pretty much +2.5 or less if the ocean is flat. Next week, if you want to dig in the light Mon-Thurs. in the late afternoon is doable if the surf is calm. Could also dig Fri-Sun at first light if you wanted to go that route.

Re: Razor Clams in Oregon??
Does anyone know of a tide chart for the beach, Seaside area? The closest I can find is the Necanicum at 12th Street bridge, but I know that is way off...
Thanks,

Re: Razor Clams in Oregon??
12th street should be within a 1/2 hr of the beach with the beach being a little earlier. It's not that far. The diff on the CR between the entrance and Youngs bay (10 miles) is only an hour.
Send Corrirod (if he doesn't see this) a message and see if he knows a more exact offset. He launches off the beach at Gearhart with his Dory.

Re: Razor Clams in Oregon??
12 street is the closest published one that I know of. As Mel said, it's fairly close, within 20-30 minutes.

Re: Razor Clams in Oregon??
FYI,
I personally use either the N. Jetty entrance to the Columbia River or my Columbia River tide book has a correction for Clatsop Beaches. Both are within 10-15 minutes of each other. I get my tide books from Englund Marine.
