Default Looking for depth finder/gps suggestions

I just purchased a used dory and am in the process of 'getting it ready' for '04. Ironically, it is a Harvey and has never been launched from Pacific City. Anyway, it has a Lowrance df without speed or temp and does not have a gps or marine radio. I need all of the above.

I'm considering purchasing a speed/temp hookup for the current Lowrance but am not ruling out getting a new unit that includes a gps, or possibly a separate gps. Any suggestions? these are tough decisions!

I'll let you consider this;
You have a ff on board (don't know which one or it's capabilities), you can always buy the speed/ temp at fisherman's at a price cheaper than what a new one of any quality would cost. Now, get a seperate GPS from this, most now come in a combo, but leave the others ff on board. This is more of a safety issue than anything. If one goes out you still have a back up for depth at the very least. You will not have to worry about the transducers crossing over signals between the two units considering the older lowrance units use a frequency of 192 khz which none of the newer ones use any more. Unless the old machine runs a dual freq. transducer, then the freq will be 200/50 and that is what most of the main brands use now. This just means that you will have to turn one off or in the higher-end machine you can turn it off while still being able to use the GPS. I run a lowrance x-18c up front and a x-85 in back if I am trolling, the trans. are mounted within one ft of each other and there are no problems.

Thanks - I think that is the route I'm going to take. I'll purchase the speed/temp and then buy a separate gps. I didn't realize that there were so many posts regarding ff/gps here. Great resource!
