How Many Cases of shotgun shells?

I was just wondering if I'm a whacko... I know I've been hunting quite a bit but I just finished my second case of shells for the season and onto the 3rd. With the new dog this year, I've spent more time on the water with him, he's what it's all about........

How many cases of shells do you shoot a season?

usually less than 1, but i only get out about 10-15 times a year

You either hunt a lot or need shooting lessons lol

wow that is alot of shells for one season. how many days are you hunting to shoot that may shells?

i am into my 2nd case right now but i have had 2 really bad days of shooting.

Goodness, when you said alot, that is alot of shells. 250 rounds per flat or case and finished up the 2nd.
As an ex competitive baseball player, I look at all my wingshooting "averages", just like a batting average.
If I'm 1 for 3 in baseball, that's not too bad, but needs some improvement. Same could be said for shotgunning.
Not bashing you, but if you are getting that many shot opportunities and the bird harvest is less than 1 for 3, it would have me thinking: patterning, range/yardage estimation off, need more time on the range, let them decoy better, etc.
In a competitive trap league, scores of 20+ out of 25 birds ( 18 - 20 yard line) are about average. Use this as a baseline on the range and see if shooting a little more, at known yardages, helps you out. If you are breaking the targets, then I would say you might possibly be having ranging issues.
I know you are a good fisherman, so you have it in you to improve if that is the case.

I have want through 2 cases of goose loads and 1 and a half of duck so far this year and at $175 a case it's getting expencive

but what can you do and yes I hunt a lot well that and I am a bad shot

I usually go through at least a case and in a busy season two. If I can kill a limit with less than a box I figure I'm doing ok. Any more than that and I know I need to slow down.

Who are you guys talking to about shooting bad???? Did he ever say he has shot alot cause he's missing? Some people actually shoot alot because they are consistently killing ducks when others aren't.

Am I missing something here?

Unless we are talking heavishot, then its only 100 rounds per case

Very entertaining though, I do shoot with both eyes open beleive it or not....

Some guys are getting a bit worked up here....

Anyhow, yeah I hunt a bit. Not the best shot in the world but I'd figure I average a box a day, give or take a few.... Several 1 shot kills, a handful of slouse shots a day to save Drake from the extra mile swim....

I figure I've got 24-25 hunts in so far this season, things are going good. I'll post a few pics when it's all over.....

I was just curious if others shot as much. Finally cleaned my SX3 after some where around 500 shells, was getting a little sticky on the 15 degree morning but yet to have a mis-fire or hang up.... Love this new gun.. Would like to say I shoot it well but then again, I've shot alot.....

Alex you lucky dog with your pinnie band!!!!!!!! We've managed a couple bands on hunts I've been on but none for me............

I take it you like the new boom stick?????

I myself have shot a few shells this year, more than last seasons total, but with the new pup and hunting more, that would figure into the equation.
I've yet to clean my SX3 this season and it still goes bang every time I pull the trigger.

I'm with ya, shooting the fastest autoloader on the planet can make a guy go through a bunch of shells so I really have to reconsider that third shot a lot of times.

I should be shooting some ammo right now...But its the weekend, and its coooold.
Its not uncommon for me to go thru a case or 2. Sometime more, but I'm not hunting as much waterfowl this year as I usually do. Year before last I did a couple months strait hunting ducks, and geese 4 to 6 days a week average. I have no idea how many rds I went thru. I keep a few handy, and I'll admitt I am not the shot I should be so I'll keep my shots fired, and birds on the ground ratio a secret. Lets just say...when I shoot a limit of ducks in less that 10 shots everyone is gonna know about it.

I'd say your normal s1...and if your hunting that much. Looks like you have a darn good program! It will not take long to have a crackerjack of a dog at that rate.

Two fifty is a flat or half a case. A case has 500 shells in it.

I'm assuming Mudhen is in the Sauvies area, although I do have my Oregon license as well I stay away from Sauvies. Not really into the draw system.. I'd rather load the boat up with the Marsh Rat and head down for Brownsmead or the Coast if I'm hunting the Oregon side....

Ive probably shot 8-10 SHELLS this year. Trying to conserve the rounds. At least that is my excuse

Nope. That's a flat. The last case of 500 I bought was from Active. That was probably the last American company to package whole cases of 500. I guess by default the newer packages of 250 have become a "case." I have a few 1930/40ish wooden cases (empty) of 500 both Remington and Winchester. Times are changing I suppose.

The question about fit was serious. Has nothing to do with how much he shoots. If he hasnt had it fit and it doesnt, he could be shooting more than he needs to. Cleaner kills, fewer shells used etc...

Approaching two cases ... I have a friend that consitantly forgets to buy shells ..... hmmmmm.

He does fill my tank from time to time though .... and that's a good trade off!

Ive hunted every weekend since the opener, Shot a bunch of Birds. Had some slow days too. I still have 6 boxes left of my case. My prediction is I will just use up one case for the season.

My recomendation is not to shoot less; but more! Stick to one load of shells all year, and go shoot that load for doves or starlings in the summer. A half a flat in september realy increases my early season average...And if you interested in proper fit call me Shelby 503-547-9603

Ditto on the one box per hunt. I have shot about one case of shells this year. The last few years I have been shotting 3 cases a season, I have definatly hunted less do to new work hours.

I have been pretty lucky this year shooting bands, I shot my 3rd of the season today and it was #29 lifetime, all shot within the last 10 years.
