I have NOT seen the bird numbers we had last year. My season hasn't been going so well. Bad chip draws, no water, didn't get a reservation for 2 SI periods and only 1 LC trip. Haven't limited yet this year, last year i shot 4 by now and had several trips with 4 or 5 birds.

Yeah, but those two Mallard singles, that came RIGHT IN to you on Steelman here about a month ago were SWEET! (So was that big flock of Widgies, when we thought we wouldn't fire a shot out there )

Yeah, picking chips has be pretty much SUCKY this season!

And with so FEW places over on the Eastside cashing in, it's been way below par...

KEEP TRYING!

(That's what I'm going to do)

I live in Pendleton and while I haven't tried the Columbia yet there still do not seem to be as many birds as I'm used to by this date. I always figure after Thanksgiving was the time to get after 'em, but this year...

I jump-shot 6 green winged teal yesterday. I had my first quadruple ever!!! There were no ducks coming into our pond (as it's frozen over), but we watched a few groups of teal and two mallards land on the slough. A few jumped groups later, and the dog (my buddies lab) had his first through 5th retrieves.

Just to brag on his pup a minute (10 months old, about 66 lbs), I will tell the story.

The slough was frozen in a few places, and I shot one duck that skidded to a stop on top of the ice. The dog dove in and began crashing ice out of the way with both front paws. When he was about 3 feet from the duck the ice was to thick for him to crash and the water was too deep for him to jump. So what does he do? He lunges forward, reaches out and swats the bird back towards himself until he can get it in his mouth. Brings the duck back and starts diving in the snow. I love labs.

sure. You can send me a pm to get my e-mail and I will post them for you.
Or you can get a photobucket.com account (its free) and upload them to that, then copy the IMG code and paste it here.

so all you shotgun experts out there, I have a friend which has a DU Onyx Beretta 20G he just won and wants to unload it for $1k ...thoughts? I know my way well around rifles but I don't now jack about shotguns. I have one 870 rem 12G and use it quite a bit but that's it.

Where are all of the pics of those 285 birds that all 116 of you shot at the secret honey hole yesterday??? Either the coot population took a turn for the worse or there are actually some real birds out there!!!

No, not me. I haven't been out in way too long. But my cell phone told me plenty of feathers have been put on the water.
