Default First Story Fishing on The Blitz Pic Added

Since learning about I-fish from my son several months ago, and lurking and learning awhile, I became excited about trying Tuna fishing. I read about Mike Stowe and the Blitz on I-fish and decided to give him a try. We left the dock at 5:00 AM on Friday and proceeded through the fog for 21/2 hours. With our lines in the water less than 10 minutes, I hooked my first TUNA. We then endured a short dry spell as the Captain looked for more fish. And did he find fish! With Donnie (deck hand) doing the chicken dance (Chicken of the Sea?) down one side of the boat while **** (the other deck hand) sang to the fish trying to lure them in and waving a five gallon bucket over the side trying to catch a jumper we were just too busy catching fish to adequately appreciate the entertainment. At one point with eight rods in the water we had eight fish on! At least twice more we had six on at one time and managed to bring them all in. Did I hear someone say Tuna don’t fight? After you have broken off eighty pound test line on a 25 pound fish that is determined to swim to China, you quickly dispel that myth.
Whenever the bite seemed to slow down, Cap’n Mike had another place to go and we were soon back into fish.
At 2:30 when it was time to come home, we stopped at least twice on the way because the Captain spotted fish and everyone put their poles back in the water and more fish were caught.
By the end of the day, it was quite apparent, that Mike is not in the charter business just to make a living. MIKE STOWE LOVES TO CATCH FISH. We ended with over 50 fish on board and everyone I believe was very pleased.
Ron, my buddy and I shared our catch. Saturday four of us canned 124 half-pints, 12 pints, and vacuum sealed and froze 24 loins! I guess Smith’s won’t be seeing me this year.

Thanks Mike for a memory that will last a lifetime as one of my best ever fishing experiences!
I hope you like my story, if not, I could tell you about the unsinkable sailboat we managed to sink in the Columbia a few years ago, or the albino deer I got in Southern Oregon back in '59.
Short Pump It!! Do the Dance!! Under that pole, Around the next one, Get it **** !!

Next thing you know you'll be attending TunaHolics meetings and kicking tires down at the local boat shop. Oh, and just any boat won't do. No, no. It will have to be one that can get you to Tuna Town and back! You're doomed!

But.... it's a great crowd!

Welcome aboard.

Welcome to Ifish and to the group of tunaholics. They're sure fun to catch, and it sounds like you all did a very fine job of that.

NoahII, welcome friend. You are in stellar company with this group. We are a little tuna crazed at times but all good folks here.

Thanks for the story and it is only a matter of time ... I must fish with Mike Stowe on the Blitz someday soon. He loves his work and the sea.

Welcome aboard, Noah II. Thanks for the report.

I have fished on the Blitz a couple of times, and have nothing but praise for Capt'n Mike and his crew.

Peace, Tom

I wanted to take this opprotunity to praise Cpt. Mike. Some fellow ifishers and myself had an absolutely fantastic trip on the Blitz in Oct. Me and a couple of the other guys on board had only tuna fished out of West Port where live bait is redily available and were a little skepticle about fourteen guys doing nothing but draggin' hardware all day. Mike told us we didn't need it and then he proved it to us all day. I would highly recomend Cpt. Mike and the Blitz to anyone. Although I must say if my case of tunitis doesn't go into remission soon I'm not sure if my wife is going to make it. It sounds like it's already to late for you NoahII!!

Just in case anyone might be interested, here is a pic of part of our catch.
The final count was 51 fish, or as I told the Captain, he was just one short of having a full deck. (Gotcha Mike)http://www.ifish.net/uploads/162511274.gif

Welcome aboard Noah -

Are they beautiful or What?!!! You guys got some hogs there. Mike probably had to quit for the sheer weight of those things!

Get ready to take the 12 step Tunaholics pledge and attend our meetings. It's a support thingie to get us through the the non-tuna months.

Doesn't salmon fishing seems a little tame after
after tuna?
